3pm on a Saturday! its gettin on top of me and i really need a week off.

im gonna try get 19th-24th Nov off, and i'll need a bit of luck to get that :mad
What in god's name are you going around 3pm on saturday for what time are you being paid till.?

i agreed to do O/T but on a different run, did the O/T 1st then back to the office to take out he run i was on at 1st, just far too tired as im working nearly every day and doing O/T nearly every day, i'll speak to my DOM on Monday mornng and i'll not go into his office alone
It does sound that you are very very stressed by all that has gone on i wish you well.

damn right im stressed, thats why i just gave up today, its just became too much, 6 months of non stop work, O/T etc

new start times aren't helping much either

:lfo :cfo

If you were a year in then it would be time for some sick time but because they don't give you sick pay until you've done a year then you ave to decide whether it's worth it. (and maybe you should think about filling in a grievance form)

Stuart,
i know it's easy to say,but try not to get stressed out,you sound like you
need a break.
first of all,you should know your holiday entitlement for this year, the problem
is,as you've started after most people have already selected their leave, the
DOM will allocate you time-off that suits him, possibly 2 weeks in February.
In your office there should be a holiday form on display showing everyones
annual leave by week, this is the first thing to look at because it shows how
many people are off in any given week, and as there is a limit of i think 8
people a week,if you go in to see the manager on Monday and request the
following week off,and only 5 people have that week,he can't really refuse
your request.
also if you want a specific week off, check the holiday form again, and see if
you can swap one of your weeks for someone who has that week who may
not actually want it.
as most people don't want leave in November, your office could be fully
staffed,so getting the 19th-24th might actually be doing your DOM a favour.
remember if you don't ask,you don't get,good luck mate.

You are entitled to take annual leave from day 1 of your employment.
The post that said only 8 people off a week isn't accurate, as it's differant in every office. I think (but am not sure) it's 10% of the work force off at any one time. 50 people work in our office & we can have a maximum of 5 off at any one time.
Ask your union rep what the maximum number of people allowed of in 1 week, look at the duty rostas for the next few weeks & on them should be listed who is on annual leave. Every week the max isn't met is a week you can book.
Speak to your DIM & request those weeks available, it's as simple as that.

Stuart, I used to be the same regarding overtime, it seems ok to start with but it WILL catch up with you.
I know the extra cash is nice but it's no good if you're getting stressed and constantly tired.
I took 2 weeks holiday and when I went back I was selective with my overtime - make it work for YOU and learn to say NO when you don't want to do it. :cuppa

Did you see your rep? Get him on the case ASAP, By the way, it's not your fault he's not had a day off in 7 weeks is it? What concern is it to you? Your not paid to worry that your DOM's 'working too hard', he's paid for it and he's the one that get the big bonus. You're right he's a tw*t.

my rep wasn't about today, i'll see him tomorrow probably and have a word. 6 months without a break is too long.

Sounds to me like someone should have explained the cutting off procedure to Stuart. Here it is if it helps anyone:

The National Agreement which relates to cutting off is the Conduct Code agreement Section 3. The extra detail in italics is the interpretation of how this should be applied.

PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT

a) Where an employee feels that on completion of preparation he/she may experience difficulty in completing his/her delivery within the authorised time allotted, he/she should approach his/her manager as soon as possible before setting out on delivery. It will be for the manager to discuss any problem and advise the employee what particular action should be taken.

In the 1st instance a point on the delivery should be agreed indicating what mail should be taken, this should include all live mail including mail sort, culling of mail sort should be the last resort.

b) When an individual has requested assistance on delivery, but the manager feels that assistance is not required, this decision along with the advice given to the employee will be recorded and associated with the daily traffic volume records. The employee can have access to this record and may ask to see it prior to commencement of his/her delivery. In addition to recording the employee's request, the employee will be instructed to ring his/her local manager prior to a specified time or as soon as possible if full completion of delivery workload within the time allotted proves not to be possible.

AFTER COMMENCEMENT OF DELIVERY

a) If an individual is prevented from completing their delivery for any reason, it is essential that this is reported immediately either by returning to the office or by telephone, telephone costs will be refunded.

Shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted I know but if I've learnt one thing whilst working for Royal Mail it's how to cover my arse.

Stuart, if I've read this right, you were sent home for wilful delay (bringing two bags of mail back). If it helps any, tell your manager you was not aware of the correct procedure for bringing mail back, and get your Local Rep to suggest councilling instead of disciplinary action up to and including dismissal which is what you may be facing.

Good Luck

Hopefully just being sat down and told you're a naughty boy and being instructed on what the correct procedure is ...... see above.
