P.S. you'll find that everything in RM is a fight, if you stay quiet you'll never get any Saturdays off, if you consistently moan like s**t, you will.
I'm on a 28 hour contract (part time). I have worked for RM for just over year and had only two (2) Saturdays off. I have never had a long weekend - a Saturday followed by the next Monday.
Am I Actually "ENTITLED" to 1 in 6 Saturdays off?? If I am "Entitled" where is this written please, or where can I find it to read up fully on this issue? Or should I re-read my Contract.
Am I being treated differently to others because I'm 'part time' and not on a rota?? Is this then a fairness issue about which I can start a 'Grievance' ??
It's all a be new to me and theres lots to get my head round.
Thanks . . .
Saturday Attendances
In addition to the above it is jointly recognised that Saturday attendances and in particular the number of Saturdays worked require special attention in order to meet the aspirations of employees and the needs of the business.
In recognition of this Royal Mail and CWU commit to providing more Saturday off options as part of improved attendance patterns for delivery employees. We have jointly explored and identified a number of options/opportunities to maximise the number of Saturdays off.
Whilst the precise number of Saturdays off and the aspirations of employees will vary from unit to unit, both parties believe we can deliver cost effective and reliable options that will maximise the number of Saturdays off for those who wish them. Royal Mail and CWU commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of employees (including reserves)
The text you quoted comes from the pay deal before the most recent deal. It was an 'aspiration' to get more Saturdays off for all posties and we all realised at the time that this statement was a load of ******** and would never come to fruition.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.
Short answer......bang in a grievance. Worked for me!
I am a rest day relief but get moved around a lot but the guys who do the rota stick to my off duty rota.
Does your office operate long and shorts? If so, I would assume Tuesday is a short, therefore you are getting shafted by likely working more than your contracted hours as these will be calculated over a 6 week average taking in to account the days you will have off.
I.e. some weeks you will work slightly less hours than your contracted hours and other weeks you will work slightly more depending on your day off. But it will balance out over the 6 week period. If you are continuously off on a "short" day then this won't balance!

I raised this very issue several years ago and that's the exact word the DOM quoted in response. I hope the next Deal of the Century has a clause in which we all 'aspire' to become millionaires. It's the thought that counts.
Remember the union guys saying its a "rotating day off" which doesnt specifically state a 1 in 4 or a 1 in 6 Saturday off.
Let your manager & rep know you've not been getting any. Make sure you keep records and let them know you keeping tabs. Then complain like hell every day, followed by grievance.
