Capita doubts setting in
Just phoned Capita today at their mid January request.
A doddle. An automated system is available to send out age 55 options. It is triggered at 6 weeks before your Birthday, so I've elected to receive the "tick box" (her words), options.
If it goes as well as the two phone calls I've made, happy days. I'll keep you posted...

Can anyone share the email address for the CEO. I'm due my pension in three weeks and I'm getting no where. I noticed someone contacted the ceo and got it sorted. I have emailed my MP.

My wife jumped through all the various hoops as per process starting last September, with a retirement date of the 3rd January 2019. Results so far, still no valuation information whatsoever, merely a standard letter late December stating that information should be available after the 31st January 2019. Initial complaint sent last week resulted in a standard letter stating a further 10 working days for any investigation (please disregard this email if you have received your pack). Emailed the CEO yesterday, got a reply this evening from him advising he has escalated it to the senior manager in charge of the Royal Mail Pension operation. We will see if that moves things along. Many thanks for the helpful names and email addresses we used when contacting the CEO.

Update.
The valuation arrived by email earlier today, so a result after contacting Jon lewis. My wife also received a follow up call from a guy asking if she had received the information. The email contains the various forms that require signing and returning (a hard copy by 1st Class post should be arriving tomorrow according to the email) prior to the lump sum payment and commencement of pension. Once again, thanks for the information you guys have supplied in previous posts, it has certainly accelerated the process somewhat, it's just a pity that it takes an email to the CEO to get things moving.

The first £11,500 is supposed to be tax free.

All your income below the personal tax allowance in any one year is tax free, everything over is taxable!
If you have two or more income streams in one tax year, you might end up paying either too much or not enough tax.
These things tend to work themselves out on their own and you might get a refund of any overpaid tax in due course(or a bill if you've underpaid). Or else your PTA might be altered accordingly.
If in doubt contact HMRC and they will tell RM and any other employer or pension provider you're getting income from, how much income tax to deduct.
The PTA is currently £11,850 and is going up to £12,500 from 6th April 2019.
RM employees should also have another £120 added onto their PTA, which is the uniform cleaning allowance.

Capita doubts setting in
Hi, I just wondered if people are still having issues getting their pension paperwork?
I’m 55 in February and want to take my pension early so, as advised, I wrote to Capita requesting this at the beginning of November. I posted Signed For so I know it arrived, however I hadn’t heard anything by the beginning of December so I phoned them . I was told that my request would be dealt with and my options and the relevant forms would be with me within 4 weeks. I still haven’t heard from them so phoned again this morning. I have been told that “work is in progress and it just needs to be signed off” - I was given approximate figures of what I’ll be offered and told that it should be signed off by Thursday and sent out by end of this week. I want to trust what I’ve been told but having read what others have gone through, I’m concerned that it’s all lip service and things are a long way off?!
Also, I wondered if anyone could advise me please on the lump sum aspect - does it get paid at the same time as the first months pension payment (last day of the month?) or is it paid separately? Many thanks

Point to note on that issue of taxation.
Depending on how much your pension is, the option to remove a lump sum from the outset could be extremely important.
For example, if you take NO LUMP SUM and your yearly pension puts you over that tax allowance figure then you'll be paying some tax.
On the other hand if you take say 25% LUMP SUM (which is always tax free) then what remains as your yearly pension might then be
under the tax allowance threshold. Thus you won't get taxed at all.
All depends on how much your pension is and how close that is to the tax free allowance.
From the Gov site:
"When you take money from your pension pot, 25% is tax free. You pay Income Tax on the other 75%.
Your tax-free amount doesn’t use up any of your Personal Allowance – the amount of income you don’t have to pay tax on.
The standard Personal Allowance is £11,850."
https://www.pensionwise.gov.uk/en/tax" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So as an example. Let's say you have totally retired and have absolutely no income except for this pension.
Let's say your yearly pension is £14,000.
If you elect to have NO LUMP SUM then the first 11,850 of that pension is tax free but the rest £2,150 will be taxed
On the other hand, if you elect to take 25% LUMP SUM then your yearly pension will already be less than £11,850 and so won't get taxed.
I believe that's right, but someone correct me if I have something wrong there.
This was important for my case. Taking the 25% lump sum means I won't get taxed on the pension EVEN when the extra RM bonus bit packs in at age 67 and state pension kicks in.
Not only that but I can now take that 25% lump sum and invest it so it makes more money for me :-)

Farouk 7475..
If it helps and you're up to speed with my "story" (this is my thread by the way), Capita wrote to me a couple of days ago. Essentially saying that my request for figures is live on the system and will be triggered at 6 weeks before my Birthday in May. The interesting bit for me was that they apologised for not responding to my letter, they've been overwhelmed in the transitional period BUT were catching up and making progress. So don't be too down hearted just yet.
