Afternoon all,
So have just had confirmation I’ve passed my security checks so just waiting on a start date now.
Whilst waiting for uniform to be sorted I plan on wearing cargo pants and layers on top as I know I’ll get warm even in the snow working in South Wales. Just after recommendations for footwear please. Was thinking of getting some Karrimor walking boots as they’ve got a decent tread and are comfortable, Support my ankle but won’t break the bank. Or does someone have a better suggestion?
Also on my list is decent socks, fingerless gloves, plenty of foot care stuff, Epsom salts...anything else I need to add?
Thanks in advance!

I just wore a pair of black lightweight running shoes, my Royal Mail footwear arrived within a week of me starting so I’m pleased I didn’t spend a lot of money on them.
I wore the trainers for a couple of weeks before I started so they wouldn’t hurt my feet, I’m on my 3rd week now, haven’t had any blisters but I do wear plasters on my heels everyday just in case. I just wore normal socks with the trainers but with my Royal Mail shoes I wear walking socks as they’re thicker and the shoes are a lot like walking/hiking shoes.

I’ve just finished my first week in my DO and have worn an old pair of gazelles. Feet are fine. My walk is all flat pavements/roads pretty much the way through. Some hilly parts also. If you’re more rural then I’d just ignore everything I just said

I’m in South Wales, pretty rural..mountains, hills etc. I’m torn as to what to do. I’ve got about 3 weeks until I start and am going to be walking 5 days a week starting tomorrow building from 5 miles a day which I know I can do easily to around 9 before I start. So I’ll give it a go in trainers for the first week and see how I get on
