Missing mail mystery for Park South residents worried about identity theft

A MISSING mail mystery has confused and concerned elderly Park South residents.

At least 10 people in the Cavendish Square area didn’t receive a single bit of mail for almost a month over the busy Christmas period.

Christmas presents, credit card statements and wage slips sent to them by relatives, banks and employers never arrived at their addresses - and the Post Office don’t seem to know why.

Dominic Connell, 71, was the first person in his block of flats to notice the problem. He said: “Up until December it was fine, then my daughter sent me a Christmas present on December 18 and it never arrived, and using the parcel tracking number to find it brought nothing up.

"Three more parcels were sent over the next three days but they're all registered as delivered even though they never turned up.

“The bank and DVLA sent statements that disappeared, so I asked them to send them again, they did, and they went missing too.

“When we went to the Dorcan Post Office depot, they couldn’t help us and didn’t take it seriously, it felt like they didn't believe us, but it’s very serious.

"If people get the personal and financial details on your bank statements, they could steal from you or commit identity theft, a lot of damage could be done.

"Something is very very wrong - where has all our mail gone?"

His neighbour Patricia Thomas, 74, said: "I don't get a lot of mail anyway but I received nothing for weeks, not even junk mail.

"My bank statements never arrived, which is very frustrating and annoying, this is the first time that this has ever happened to me, it's not right, it's worrying.

"Who knows what other important documents we've missed over Christmas. I get the feeling that it's all been dumped somewhere, the Post Office must know which postie was on our route, couldn't they ask them?"


Another resident, who wished to be anonymous, said: "It's been a nightmare, it got so bad that we checked CCTV every day to see if a postman had come.

"We've also head that people on Frobisher Drive are also missing mail."

Last week, on January 7, Dominic received the first piece of mail in weeks, but there's no indication that the backlog of missed mail will ever be delivered to him or his neighbours.

A spokeswoman for the Royal Mail said they would be monitoring deliveries to the addresses affected and will visit them in the near future to investigate.

She added: “Royal Mail can confirm that all mail for our customers in Swindon is going out for delivery every day.
