I cant understand why people seem worried about doing more work in less time , yes it may seem like that but you start later and you have a finish time unless you do the o/t which will cost the company more , so its down to the dims and r/m to try to make the indoor side of the job less and not ours , this company have been throwing threats around for years saying about new sorting machines etc that will do away with all the indoor work so they with increase the outdoor , and as we all know they cant do this and the lastest trials indoor and out have proved they cant do , so I think it was a good call from the cwu .

No, we have start times for full timers and start times for partimers. Duty makes no difference. The full timers do all the sorting, the part timers just prep our own frames. Guess it's just how different offices operate.postmanzach wrote:That’s odd, I think most offices have part time duties, where the duty time is perhaps a 830 start the Mail is thrown off ypynjust pick it up and go. Or the walking part of the round is much smaller.

You can say that again. Our part timers (inc me) don't prep duties, they get them prepped by full times.postietom wrote: the part timers just prep our own frames. Guess it's just how different offices operate.
Problem is, full timers need to find 12 mins a day from somewhere. In fact some do a four day week, so need to do 15 mins less work. What do you think they do, cut off / claim or just leave 15 mins for the poor part timer (me).
So, I have to do 15 mins more indoor work, then explain why I can't lapse or complete.
Shambles.

I'm confident it will happen but don't expect anything but minimal pay rises as a consequenceNewPostieUK wrote:Did he actually say that?worktotime wrote: Terry said 2022 we will be doing a 35 hr
He said a lot of s**t about pathways and s**t. Aims, possibilities and some lies.
Never happen.

Lots of people have an opinion, but not one single person can tell my how the savings and 'efficiancies' will be made. How will we get more productive all of a sudden?
There's just a load of obscure guff about bench merging and vague new delivery methods. It's all subject to trials anyway, so how can anyone be confident it'll happen?
The only thing you can be sure of, if we are to go from 38 to 37 hrs, it will involve loss of paid breaks.

On current UK employment law employers have to provide paid breaks. If they don't then they have to pay additional wages to cover that time. I realise it would only be twenty minutes but paid every day to every postie that would be an additional cost to RM.NewPostieUK wrote:Lots of people have an opinion, but not one single person can tell my how the savings and 'efficiancies' will be made. Increased automation, as seen on in rmtv today parcel sorting machines. It’s a good idea the sww- to be a step ahead of the future changes with increased automation that are inevitably coming.NewPostieUK wrote:Lots of people have an opinion, but not one single person can tell my how the savings and 'efficiancies' will be made. The SWW hasn't had the effect Terry intended in our DO. The mail still gets to us at the same time to be sorted and most of the posties still arrive at the same time they used to before the SWW was introduced. We still clear the office of all mail as we did before so the same time is worked. The only difference is the work is completed unpaid.
I think the union had best intentions but the idea of the SWW is really for a time in the not too distant future when there will be less work available across the world compared to the population. Then a system of a national income would need to be devised and jobs would be shared on some kind of rota system. We are not yet at that point in time yet though.

Increased automation of parcels obviously can only be applied in MCs and similar locations so I agree that could possibly enable use of SWW for those staff as there may be a time saving.postmanzach wrote:Increased automation, as seen on in rmtv today parcel sorting machines. At DOs there cannot be automation and parcels cannot be fitted into mech trays. Even sorting small packets into mech trays would provide little time saving and is frankly a ridiculous notion.
Instead of the SWW the union would have been better served pursuing regulation to ensure all hours worked are paid for. As it stands we, and for that matter most workers across the country, do not have this. The TUC are aware of this situation and a campaign jointly organised by all UK unions could have been organised.
