So will absence stages 1.2.3 now be based on hours sick rather than days on sick ?

RM started doing it in hours a good few years ago now, it's just taken some offices a while to make the transition to using PSP for annual leave

so why didn't r/m and the cwu inform the staff as whats going on and changes to the annual leave , so was it national agreement , and we must missed that part of the agreement or the ltb . the biggest confusion is when theres days to carry over or bank holidays especially with longs and shorts , and will your annual leave entitlement change from days to hours now . these are just questions I have been asked by other staff , members .

afaik it was in both WTL and LTBs so your office must have either missed both or both your managers and CWU rep failed to tell you

When we agreed to be flexible matching hours to traffic no one knew that along the line would come this attack on our holiday entitlement. A day is a day is a day in my opinion. As this is a change to T & C's I believe it should be put to a national ballot but instead seems to have been a shady deal. I got told by my rep not to rock the boat as RM mail may come back and grab some more hours of those which have already taken leave :arrrghhh

However the pressure must be maintained and the union must come clean on what dirty deal has been done.

In theory it could or can mean that you could book a load of days on 'shorts' and get more days off work than you previously could. In practice we generally either want to or can only book whole weeks off so there could be some kind of excess. I think the solution to this is probably to keep carrying over any excess hours to the next year so you won't lose out and the pen-pushing skinflints in an RM office somewhere will be content.
but it seems as though they are trying to run on 2 different ways days / hours and it doesn't work , so you are entitled to say 25 days a/l per year and you decide right ill book 4 weeks (20 days) and I will take the rest on a Tuesday which is a shorter working day so you get 7 days instead of 5 , do you think the powers above will say that's ok or you cant have them 2 days as you have gone above your allocation and are only allowed 25 days ? , because this is what seems to be happening . its got to be 1 or the other , imo.
For further explanation by TBT on changes & PSP CWU/RM Joint statement download see recent "Holiday Allowance Issues" thread posted in Union Room.

Not really that complicated, you just add up the hours of holiday for each day. So if you take a week off on a short week you will end up not using 38 so you use them another time.

A short week is when we have a long weekend, so working Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday or Wednesday -Saturday.

We have holidays in hours and it’s a right balls up
So now you have to try and work your days off, short day etc a year and more in advance just to get your full allocation of holiday entitlement

I think most posties wouldn't know what an LTB is if you asked them. I only know what they are because I use this forum and have seen links for LTBs and clicked them. Everyone knows what WTLL is but I think in our office until the DOM pointed out they had forgotten to change our AL allocation to hours from days we didn't know it had been changed. This could have been maybe years after it was supposedly changed and may even not been changed by our previous DOM.
