We were told that 49000 tracked instead of 20000 last year but not sure whether that was just our section of the office or not

I assume that's the amount per day and not per week
You assume wrong. As I said, items for the last 4 weeks. I.e Total.

You must work in a DO. I reckon that we must have had over 250,000 over the four weeks. Some days I think we've had 20,000+

We had a noticeable increase in "bulk", parcels that would normally go ParcelForce. Coincidentally, A local PF guy was telling me their Christmas was quieter than usual. Didn't have as many couriers (people in cars) out this year either.

Mine felt a lot worse this year. But I think that was down to how the office was run. They tried something different and it back fired majorly

Tracked or normal (by "bulk" do you mean the weight or the size of them?)?

Didn't notice any tracked, but a lot of parcels labelled as being over 11kg or whatever weight. To me they should be delivered by those equipped with sack trucks as standard, not handballed into/out of a mainly Combo fleet. Is there set standards on whether something goes Royal Mail or PF depending on it's size/weight or is it pot luck?

An average sized DO (around 60-70 duties with a mixture of rural and town deliveries) will see a tracked count of anything between 1000 and 3000 tracked per day over the Christmas period.

Obviously that'll also depend on geography.

The weight limit for Tracked is now 30Kg

10-15 years ago we were doing duties that took 2.5-3 hours and on the worst days at Christmas it was 4 hours.

We are now at minimum 4hr 20 mins most days and up to 5.5 hours at Christmas, it's just that we are now conditioned to be out delivering longer.

Thats nothing to do with volumes though

Just less posties/walks covering the same postcode

On heavy days we had twice the number of tracked as last year. Hopefully shares bounce back up again.

Locally RM own figures said tracked items were up 20% for the Black Friday & Cyber Monday on the previous year. I think a growing percentage of people are ordering presents online earlier so the work is spread over a longer period. When this happens there is a tendency for yet more work to be completed unpaid as RM is more reluctant to pay overtime in November.

Regarding the RM share price it is widely predicted to drop to 2.50 . It really looks bad at the moment and I don't really see how the situation can be turned around unless we can get a completely new set of competent upper management in along with decent sales and advertising staff.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.
