Royal Mail issues statement after 'tragic' collision killed pedestrian and his dog in Burnham-on-Sea

Royal Mail has released a statement after a man was struck and killed by a lorry while walking his dog in Burnham-on-Sea.

The man, in his 50s, and his pet died on Friday (December 14) after being struck by a Royal Mail lorry which then collided with a wall in Love Lane around 4.20pm.


A woman was also hit by the vehicle and suffered serious injuries.

She was taken to Southmead Hospital, in Bristol, for treatment.

Now, Royal Mail has issued a statement, expressing condolences to the friends and families of those involved.

A spokesperson for Royal Mail told Somerset Live: “We are aware of the tragic events that occurred at Burnham-on-Sea on Friday evening. Our thoughts and condolences are with the families and friends of those involved.

Whilst the matter is being investigated, we cannot comment any further.”


Avon and Somerset Constabulary cannot yet release the name of the man killed but continue to appeal for witnesses to the collision.

A spokesperson for the force said: "If you were in the area at the time of the incident and have information which might help our inquiry please contact the collision investigation team via 101, providing the call handler with the reference 5218276435."
