We as Reps represent the members, if they believe that the deal is a good one and you have had the arguement with them, then I'm afraid that what democracy is all about. If you resign your position as a Rep you will be leaving your members wide open to wholescale exploitation, you must stay and fight the good fight. The members will come to regret their decision if they vote YES, but we Reps need to be there. It was the same for the Way Forward Agreement. I hope that those Reps on the workfloor who are thinking of resigning stand back and imagine what it would be like without union cover. Agreements come and go, PRINCIPLES LAST FOR LIFE! NO PASSARAN!

That's right all you staunch union men and women, you resign your posts because things didn't go the way you personally would have wanted. You leave all the rest of the union rank and file defenceless and unsupported.
You leave the rest open to executive action and management bullying, and union a toothless tiger.
Thankfully my rep shows a bit of backbone and has no intention of resigning. Shame more weren't like him, rather than the "I'm taking me bat home then" kiddies they obviously are.

If it is a yes vote this will be the testing time for the union reps to see how good they are. Some reps are too friendly with the management and when a manager see this they can use this to their advantage. I like union reps that a strong that are able to communicate with management but a the sametime distance themselves when it comes to serious issues and say "No". Reps that are too friendly with management just beat around the bush and cave in to management, we don't want reps that are like this, we want reps with some fight in them if the CWU is going to survive.

If we get lumbered with a yes vote, it shouldn't be a time for Reps to quit. On the contrary. It would be the perfect situation to find out who would be worth voting into HQ!

Anyone who is still able to stand by their principles, and get a half decent deal within the conditions of the deal,. Would be a perfect candidate to help shape the Union in the future.

We need people who will be able to get a good deal in difficult conditions. And this deal will create terrible conditions for our Reps to work within, if it gets voted in!

Such an outcome would place you in an impossible position. Presumably you would have lobbied your members long and hard to ensure maximum support to resist these changes only to find yourself forced to collaborate with management/leadership in implementing these changes. Looks like credibility will take a nosedive as harsh reality hits.
Obviously the conditions for this democratic vote are being manipulated . Securing a yes vote seems to rely on a three pronged strategy based on apathy;fatigue,and gullability it may succeed.
If it does I don't think I will be alone in seeking alternative employment, add to this number those that remain but ditch the union out of frustration and a feeling of betrayal and you are left with such a weakened shell of a union that you probably won't have much negotiating to do. If a union fails to improve conditions for it's membership, or worse works alongside management to ensure a decline in those conditions, it would defy logic for members to continue to invest in that union. It simply does not make sense to fund an organisation that acts against your self interests.
As for a union comeback in the event of a yes vote ,well the generals have defected taking the ammunition and a lot of it's troops will desert so it looks like total defeat and rapidly.

Jesus - I wouldn't like to be anywhere near you with a razor blade. Defeatest posts like this do nothing for us or the trade union movement. If this deal goes through, which I expect it will, do you really think its the end of the story. Feck no this is just the beggining mate. Remember the miners and the printers (at wapping I got beaten shitless by the old bill and I've still got hoof marks from being trampled by horses). Some of us really need to wake the hell up, I say we are and will still be regardless of the outcome of the vote the strongest most democratic unions on the bloody planet. OK the RMT are pretty good but in different circumstances, they can have an imediate impact we cant. We will have bigger battles to fight. We will need to re-group, involve members in a way they never have been and prepare for the next fight which will be around the corner.

Man after my own heart.. I cant lay down for anyone.. And IF the deal goes thru and IF Union Reps resign then we do need strong people to take up the mantel of the posts that matter in the HQ and union.... Lets get our points across to everyone with a brain and who will listen... Some wont n some just hide there heads in the sand until its to late then moan... Moan at the good Reps that stick there personal beliefs on the back burner for the democratic good of all... There needs to be alot of deep thinking of all of us IF the vote goes against us...
