Cutting off from walk but then doing a different type of OT?

Post by Woody Guthrie »

it's down to the DOM to sort out the cut off which i would have prewarned about
If you're "pre-warning" him you're using the overrunning deliveries procedure.
If you're doing that what reason will you give?

If the reason is that you're due back to work in the callers on overtime and he says don't worry about that we'll get it covered what's your response?

The original question was can I do this and the basic answer is yes if your manager is dumb enough to let you but if you're trying to say that you have a right to turn down one kind of overtime then at the same time demand another I'd love to see the agreement that backs that idea up...and there needs to be one because advising someone to do something just because you get away with it in your office isn't good advice at all.

I suppose in theory .... Royal Mail work is Royal Mail work? :hmmmm I could invisage the situation A2B mentioned, where you have a comitment to another RM job i.e Callers Office, were you may have to come back from your delivery early, but that's about it. I get the general consensus of opinion that to be blunt.... You'd be taking the piss if you Cut Off outdoors just to get some cushy indoors overtime. :no no

You'd lose all respect from your colleagues (if that sort of thing worries you) while you're at it. :cuppa

Could you provide is the excerpt of the agreement where this is stated please?

Could you provide a reasonable scenario where you could use the procedure without explaining that you don't want to incur overtime on your delivery? That is in itself the reason for not working over and it's kind of the whole point of the overrunning deliveries procedure.

Nobody is saying that you have to explain why you don't want the overtime in normal circumstances but if you turn down overtime and then demand another kind of overtime in the same time period you've obviously undermined your original position that you didn't want overtime.

In that case you've backed yourself into a position of having to explain why.

We can all easily be pedantic about agreements on paper but it's how they work in practice that's more relevant.

So while i may have taken it out of context, the answer is there's nowt in any agreement as to providing a reason for not working passed your time bar telling them you don't want to. The reason I ask is that if you give the f***ers any ammo they do try to throw it back at you so the less you give them the less they can twist it to their advantage. The more you know..
