A days holiday is still a days holiday. The amount of hours you’re scheduled to work that day does not matter.
You have a holiday entitlement and that’s that.

I only work a 4 hour day so I have never found it necessary. However my full-time colleagues are regularly given the opportunity to take half days. Bear in mind I work in an RDCA2B wrote:Out of interest have you ever done this?rogersh wrote:Writing in capital letters does not alter the fact of the official position stated in the final paragraph;Creditshampoo wrote:YOU CANNOT HAVE IT IN HOURS.

So, if I work four hours a day, this in effect means I get more 'weeks' off than someone who works full time, say eight hours or whatever a day, if our holiday hour total is the same?
It's been a long Wednesday, I'm confused....

This whole holiday by hours makes a mockery of the many OPGs that do "long and short" contract hours depending upon the day, choose a week where you should have been working a "long" Wednesday and you will need to balance it out by picking a "short" Tuesday that you should have been working... And even then you might not sufficiently balance the hours to get your expected complete weeks of leave from the old system.
Then there is the question about those of us that make use of POAL to increase our leave up to six weeks under the old system... So do we simply select whatever 6 weeks we want as before and if the hours happen to go over your quota, RM will inform you that your weekly POAL deductions will increase from x to y for the next tax year?
This change to the hours based system was announced part way through our picks for next year, so OPGs couldn't even plan their selections properly, while many on the POAL benefit were incorrectly shown as having zero or just one week left to pick in the third round of picking and had to tell the holiday admin that the computer was wrong.

So with the weeks I’ve booked instead of six weeks off I now get 5 weeks and 4 daysplus a couple of hours due to the long and short weeks that we have had placed upon us
Also we have been informed if your day off falls on a bank holiday you don’t get a day off back but the hours that you were scheduled to work so if you say wanted a Thursday off you couldn’t because you haven’t enough hours to do so from your bank holiday
We have had a system that nearly worked to one that is just plain penny pinching
Season of good will.....shove it Royal Mail you’re going to get none from our office
How can 6 weeks annual leave suddenly become 5 weeks and 4 days?? And what's this about long and short weeks. Is your office suddenly making up its own rules or something?
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
