Overtime question before accepting Job Role

Post by gimba »

I've read ALOT about overtime
Seems to be widly available throughout most of the year, accept maybe May-Julyish, which is Fine

and I've read the horror stories of getting overtime paid, with delays, and people not brave enough to confront manager to get it sorted (work o/t for free)

But my main question is, if I accept the job , 30 hour contract, and I need another hour or two to finish my round, Do I have to get overtime confirmed before doing it?, or just do O/T and go back and say I works x amount over what I should

Also, is calming O/T really THAT bad, or is it a typical case of you read more negative reviews because ... well, that's the way reviews work , not many go out their way to write a positive review, but everyone is quick to write negative

The thought of working as a postie is something i've always wanted to do, But I am in such two minds on whether to leave a comfy secure job, to something that alot of people seem to be saying is going down the drain :/

Overtime question before accepting Job Role

1. Yes, you always should inform the manager if you are going to go over. This is so they can pay you, or use other resources that may be available.

2. It depends on your actual manager - but also yes its the "bad review" syndrome has some effect.

3. It's not going down the drain, it's just that the nature of the job is changing. It's not a stroll your you local area where you happen to get paid, you are now expected to walk for anything up to 6 hours, in all but the most dangerous weather situations. The job itself is pretty easy, but hard in a physical sense.

If you enjoy interacting with anyone, and like being outside a postie is still a good job, there will probably be posties for generations to come, but they may not be doing it the same way as we do now, and we don't do it the same way as when I started.
