Our office has been forced to hire extra bodies due to staff sickness. Its the same thing every Xmas though...the managers are reluctant to put on extra packet drivers until they see that packets have built up, and then when we have got packet drivers, they don't really want to take more than 1 or 2 York's of packets so they end up throwing them back at the duty holders and often end up getting left in the office, building up for the next day.
Theres a massive push on getting the Tracked items delivered because the big bosses can see this so when managers inform us to take the Tracked and leave the others which is often pointless because most packets seem to be Tracked!! As you can imagine some staff are then wanting to leave loops but the managers don't want us to because there is often no one to do them (except the managers themselves).
Xmas is without doubt the most stressful time unless you don't mind working till 5pm! And why should we when they give us extra work all year round with extra lapsing??

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

A few days now we've had getting towards double the amount of Tracked that we normally get. I expect that to go up even further until the last couple of posting days when I expect SDs to go through the roof

Lapsing, THE BIGGEST CON IN THE HISTORY OF THE RM, so don't do it all year then. If you can your duty must be too small it's as simple as that.
