BOSSES at Royal Mail have issued an apology to a wheelchair-user who was prevented from crossing the road by a postie who parked “dangerous and inconsiderately”.
A woman highlighted the incident at Asda in Barrow via Twitter and pointed out the way the van was parked by a dropped kerb and across a pedestrian crossing meant she was unable to get off the pavement in her wheelchair.
Royal Mail bosses have now apologised to the wheelchair-user and said the employee was being “dealt with internally”.
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We apologise for the inconsiderate and dangerous parking of one of our employees and for any inconvenience caused on the day.
“Procedures are put in place for all vehicles whilst they deliver mail so that they are parked in a responsible and safe environment.
”This is an isolated incident and the post person responsible is being dealt with internally and a risk assessment will take place as to where the vehicle is parked in the future whilst mail is being delivered.”
