postie collapses and then has to take out walk!!
okay so yesterday a fellow postie popped out on his break to the local cafe as he does most days.
however he was away for ages.
now its not unknown and TBH he's a bit eccentric to say the least!!
today when i came into work i found out he had collapsed at the cafe.
an ambulance was called and they checked him at the scene and said he seemed okay but wanted to take him to hospital
he refused and came back to the DO
he informed the one of the managers who said well your okay now so just get your walk out!!
being the walkover he is he did!!!
he could have dropped dead, passed out or anything and they wouldnt have cared.rep wasnt in today(nor was the guy) but i will be raiseing this with him when i see him.

Sick Postie
If the manager was aware of the postie collapsing and feeling unwell,he should of made sure the first aider had a look @ him, and then sent the postie home.Unfortunatly the management do not give a s**t about your health as long as your walk is completed!!!!! VOTE NO !!!!!

First Aider
Shark as a first aider we are restricted to what we can do in this case the person having refused an ambulance recomendation we would be powerless to get involved unless he collapsed again on RM premises however many offices do not have enough first aiders anyway check your office list !!

Re: First Aider
I have always wondered what the position is on First Aiders in Royal Mail workplace. The reason I ask this is that all ex-servicemen had to sit through a First Aid course once a year and in the RAF at least we were tested every year as well. Ok the standard wont be up to St Johns Ambulance but its still better than the average civilian First aid course, which I have been on as well. If an incident happened and we started to give first aid would there be any problems.semacsorter wrote:Shark as a first aider we are restricted to what we can do in this case the person having refused an ambulance recomendation we would be powerless to get involved unless he collapsed again on RM premises however many offices do not have enough first aiders anyway check your office list !!
I don't want to be a first aider in work for a few personal reasons I cannot go into on here, but of course it would not stop me giving as much aid as possible before a recognised First Aider got there.

first Aid
TBT like you with 14 years in i did forces first aid to a fair level once i joined RM i re sat the st johns first aid course Thats what all RM first aiders are trained by we are covered by RM insurance that is the only difference if you were called upon to give first aid im sure your training would be of benefit but be carefull in this day and age of law suits etc
any first aid is always a good thing and i would encourage all to do even some basic stuff
on a similar note type First Responder into Google and you will find out what else some of us do !!

FIRST AID
When you qualify to become a first aider you are automatically provided with membership insurance cover with st john`s ambulance. However while at work your employer`s insurance must cover you against any claims arising from first aid duties.[ formal confirmation must be sought ]. Sadly it is a fact of life that you could still be sued for your actions if you administer first aid outside of your workplace or offical responsibilities.Public liability insurance cover up to £10m!!!!. If i saw a fellow worker injured, or could save a life in any way i would not be thinking of insurance???. VOTE NO!!!
