This is an excellent idea!!!!

A friend works for BT. We planned a day out, and he goes, “let me just try and book the day off”:

He gets his laptop out, logs on to some internal BT system, and no, he isn’t management, he brings up a calendar which is colour coded showing all of the available days, he finds the day we want, sees there are people booked to be off but it is not red (full), at the click of a button he puts in the request, which takes the day off his card and automatically sends a copy to his manager!

If BT can do it, why can’t RM?

I've been complaining about this for ages, an app that we can download and do from home.
I get the need for some notice in delivery offices so they can make sure they have the right people in to be sure those tricky duties that need training are covered, but surely they could just set it up so it locks down 4-6 weeks ahead, much more reasonable than trying to sort your life out 18 months ahead.

Also letting us book the days we want and nesd. I have a 7 night family holiday booked that goes Friday to Friday. Not my choice but just the way UK self catering accommodation tends to work.
I have to book two full weeks for this.
When people complain about people working their A/L odds are it's because they've had to book time they don't need or want just to get the bit they do.

The best thing royal mail could do is to sack 99% of all management.

You mean a 50% cull of staff  - that would be brutal - but we would probably run better.

Management and Politics the only 2 growth industries during Austerity. :chuckle :chuckle

Wow that would be amazing! :)

Probably avoid anyone taking "sickies"...not that I do this (I've not had to take any).

Sorry but why do you care so much? If you don't like it, then don't look at the thread. I'm not sure what your agenda is?

I'm personally interested to hear what my fellow colleagues have to say and I think that there have been a lot of sensible suggestions on this thread so far :thumbup
