Suspended postman is back on rounds

TWO weeks after suspending a postman who failed to obey new and unexplained rules, Royal Mail has relented and given him a reason.

David Pearce, 59, works at the Knaphill sorting office in Robin Hood Road and was suspended for almost two weeks on full pay after he failed to obey a new ruling that said he had to deliver his letters an hour later.

He was unhappy about the rule because he said a reason was not given for changing the start time.
After two weeks of union meetings Royal Mail finally revealed the reason and lifted his suspension.

Mr Pearce, who lives in Chobham, said: “The reason is simply that we have got to wait for a late mail van that comes in between 9 and 9.30am.

The thing is we haven’t had a late van for nine-and-a-half-years. I find the explanation baffling as I can’t see how it relates to Knaphill.â€
