One cynic at work today suggested those branches (or should it be said, the branch committees) reccomending acceptance of the deal ( of which mine is regretfully one, lay members having no input into the decision) are doing so solely on the self interest of local officials - those who may lose full time release should the deal fall, and chances of support for a place on the PEC at election time if they stepped out of line with the union establishment.
Mighty cynical but you can see where the lay union member was coming from.
Balls to the branch, I'm voting no. And I'm not alone!

Well said!
We get (albeit much smaller) allowances for doing extra (e.g. Driving), and so should ALL Union Reps. The amount would obviously have to be graded, depending on the amount of responsibility. So a Shift Rep could get for example £50 allowance, going up to whatever level is deemed appropriate for the GS. This could be agreed at the next Annual Conference. But the £5000 suggested by Mailsort6 sounds about right to me.mailsort6 wrote:No union offical should get paid for the representing union members, they should just be given travelling expenses and release time and probably just £5000 each year as an incentive because it is a damding position. Perhaps a motion could be passed at the next annual conference?
