Hi. Been at RM 12 weeks now. The job has got worse and worse and I plan to resign tomorrow. I'm hoping they don't make me work the full 4 weeks.

I expected to be tired and work in all weathers so no complaints there but the difference between what RM pretends to be, and what it is really like is massive.

Probably offices aren't all bad but mine is toxic beyond belief. The posties are obsessed with getting back early (for status as far as I can see) and that puts ridiculous pressure on new people - eg no breaks or you might get back after someone else - or they are weasels who would stab their granny in the eye for half an hour of extended. Management are obsessed with saving money. No uniform for six months! No training at all for a month and then useless. Bullying. Set up to fail by the bloke sharing the van on Saturday. Enough.

There is some really good stuff on here (eg "Trust no one!") and it's good to know it's not just me. So, nice to meet you. :wave

It sounds as if you've exceed your tethers end. IMaybe you can find a wee breathing space to reconsider and make this job work for you if we can help solve what probably seem insurmountable problems? I am not trying to dismiss your feelings towards what you're going through which sounds insufferable but only you know if it's worth trying to turn this around.

First, do you have a union rep and are you a union member? If you have a rep even if you are NOT a member go and see them and ask what they can do in relation to the difficulties you have been facing. Facing these problems with someone on your side may make solving problems feel less of an onerous task.

I'll have a re-read of your initial post and see if there's anything that could be a quick (ish) fix.
Nd in the meantime I'm sure the good folk on here might be able to weigh in with suggestions.

Thanks for the concern.

Yes I'm a member of the union I'll speak to my rep but I don't think they can help unless I want to make a formal complaint. And I don't want to do that because a) I am not a grass and b) I don't want to be involved in a long drawn out dispute with RM.

I hear you bud but do see the rep, there are informal channels they might explore on your behalf. And besides, all of the running around and finishing early nonsense is immediately apparent to anyone with half a brain so if there are two screws at your d.o. they WILL already know. The question is, does some tosspot's desire to wring one out on the sofa before their missus gets home mean your work life has to be dictated by it? A climate where no one squeals is fine if EVERYONE benefits but not when it's a select few.
If you would like to run anything by us (all purely hypothetical obv.) to see what can be done please feel free.

Hi, I have walked out after 3 weeks as a new start for all the reasons you have described in this post.
Working for RM has been a horrendous experience and not at all like the job that was described to me at the induction day.

I'd be interested to know if you are still with RM.

Also does anyone know who I should contact to complain about my time there as I feel something needs to be done about the bad attitude of the manager,
or at least someone should be made aware before anymore new starts suffer.

I am led to believe I am not the only new start to leave.

Surely RM know that they have a problem if they can't keep new staff especially when the pay rates are better than most other semi skilled jobs, or don't they give a s**t as they just collapse another duty. That's another problem, the term lapsing. It's the actual abandonment of a duty. Then when the auditors come in and see that eight duties are lapsed, then they want them hours out of the office. This means that offices are constantly passing even to the point of claiming docket which was never the intent to start with. No wonder new posties are pissing off. Would you stay if you long service staff were just starting out. No chance. And could you have thought how bad it would become. Take away the mamas bonus and most of the bullying and harassment will disappear. : :arrrghhh
