A neighbour said the man received 'disgusting' and 'shocking' treatment after waiting for the emergency services in the rain
Neighbours have slammed an ambulance service after a postman was left lying on the pavement with 'broken ribs' for more than five hours.
The postman slipped down several steps during his rounds in Louth, Lincolnshire, on Saturday at around 10.30am and was forced to wait in the wind and rain for help.
East Midlands Ambulance Service was called four times before one eventually arrived at around 4pm, reports Grimsby Live.
Neighbours even had to resort to bringing out quilts, duvets and umbrellas to keep the man warm and stayed with him when it began to rain at 3pm.
Mark Barford, who lives on the postman's route, said: "It was pretty shocking how long it took for an ambulance to arrive. He was obviously in a lot of pain and didn't want to use a car or taxi to get to hospital.
"We chased the ambulance four times; it was only on the final call that they said they would classify him as a priority. We didn't want to move him ourselves in case he had spinal injuries - it was disgusting how he was treated."
The man is believed to have slipped down several steps. He told the people helping him out that he thought he had broken at least a couple of ribs.
East Midlands Ambulance Service have been contacted for a comment.
