no, well yes you can go out, but you can't knock on peoples doors till after 7am, that's the law:

Statutory Noise Nuisance

A noise that is unreasonable is:

Loud noise after 11pm and before 7am

Finished at 19:00 yesterday. Pressure OT. Dark as hell and the van I had didn’t have a working light in the back. Had to use my phone torch to read parcel addresses. My own fault, told the boss I’ll clear and book what it takes. Grossly underestimated how much I had..

Latest on round started in morning be around 1800 at Christmas last year or year before. Think from now on with LATs 730 be pretty normal.

On a normal day our towns finish at 1500 rural’s at 1545, but easily go over on heavy days.

In the agreement there’s something about latest letter delivery time, at 1530 or something, how serious is that? Like say you sign up to do LATS (parcel deliveries, your tired and not up for walking more
Miles) but manager says there’s not much parcels there but there’s cut offs to do go out and deliver that. Could you refuse? I ask as this is happening here and people are not happy about it, especially with it being dark.

Probably not, think it was the Pay & Mod agreement which brought in the working all paid hours

Yes you could say that. My van partner comes in at 7, me at 8, we counted 6 trays of walk sorted letters and 9 other trays of mail. The frame is about 85% double slots and it's a tight space so we are constantly on top of each other (oo-er). Yesterday we got the last letter thrown in at 9.30, then took an hour to go through the 250 parcels, 45mins to tie off, 15mins to load the van.

That's 11.30am already. Then we have to drive through the congested city, so we are hitting our round about 12 and we do the specials first.

It's one of those where I'd like to be a fly on the van wall when 2 of the experienced lot do it, just to see how much quicker they are.

Regardless of the time I insist on us taking our break. My bank balance has never been happier!
I’d have a word with DOM see how you can work on getting our earlier, that’s ridiculous.
You say it’s tight space and on top of each other, so you both throw off one frame? Sounds like madness. We typically have 1 person throwing off 2 or 3 frames then part timer comes in 830 helps tie and gone out by 9.

When I first started twenty years ago we would often start delivering before 0700 in the dark which I found a bit of a pain. Nowadays in our DO we are usually all out on delivery by 0800.

That's right, I imagine (before I started a month ago) it was 2 seperate frames, now to save space they've simply put in double slots so there's 1400 ish delivery points instead of 700. I was actually told by a line manager only 1 of us should be throwing this in, the other should be portering. To me this makes no sense at all, regardless of how cramped it is how can just one part timer be expected to come in at 7am and throw in 15 trays of mail and 250 parcels. It's not like he knows the frame inside out.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Just as an update I was on the same round yesterday and had a full timer on it with me. Jeez he was quick! He didn't want to be out till late so we were instructed to leave 30 ish untracked parcels. It was also lighter on mail. We got out at 10am and were back at the office at 3.15pm.

I did the job for 3 years before, latest I ever finished then was 3.30pm. Since returning to Royal Mail a month ago, latest finish was 3pm.

Until this week that is. Tues Weds and Thurs I've been put on a round which is apparently the 3rd hardest of the 100 ish rounds in the office. Clocked out of the depot at 18.20, 17.35 and 18.15 respectively. Tuesday we didn't post the first letter while 12.45pm! My van partner on this round has only been in the job 3 months but I wouldn't say either of us are slow. Even the experienced full timers say they don't finish this round while 4.30-5pm.

90% call rate, 11 bags each, 250+ parcels. Bringing about 100 advised parcels back each day. My step counter said it was a 40,000 step round.

There's also a bit added to the round across town from a walk that was ended, we are delivering there right at the end in pitch black. It's one of those streets where it goes # 1, 1A....then suddenly jumps to # 9. Still don't know where mail for # 3, 5 and 7 goes, there's probably an alleyway or something but it's impossible to see in the dark.

Both of us need the money so we don't cut off, and don't know about others here but it gets to a point where you get to about 4pm and you're past caring, it's dark, you're getting digs from people (what time do you call this, did you sleep in etc) and it's water off a ducks back, you're way past your time anyway so you just keep going and take the extra OT money.

Anyone ever finished later?
Getting out at 12:45 is totally ridiculous, you need to tell them you won't be doing that again. You either want paying to come in early and prep or want a full timer to make sure it's ready to go for when you come in. 9am latest is the time you need to be out if it's busy.

There was a couple of times on my first Christmas here I finished about 4:30, never again. If there's anything taking me past 3 nowadays it stays where it is!

Not mail, apparently, but there's an agreement in our do that they're gonna run tracked missed. Why I'm staying well away to be honest, people currently are getting 4.5 hours to do 2 or 3 items, it ain't gonna be that way during Xmas that's for sure!
