But in the context of the Four Pillars SWW the first hour drop has just happened, from 39 - 38.

Either way, it's an utter shambles.

Er, not in my office. Individuals who, for whatever reason, have been regularly finishing early since Actuals began (and usually for years prior to this) have been called into the DOMs office and been told that they WILL be sent back out, or made to set up D2Ds if they come back before finishing time....and he has stuck to this. Overtime isn't being paid until after finishing time, either, meaning that ghosting has stopped. The individuals who used to be going home, or doing ghost overtime, up to 2 hours before finishing time are now working to time before leaving the office.

The office budget has been altered insomuch as a large number number of part-timers have had their hours increased so that they now work 5 days rather than 4, which has a knock on effect of reducing the need for ghosting. The next step is that the Rep and Dom are going to be using Actuals to investigate and alter the massive imbalances in delivery workload introduced at our P&L revision.

Our rep,' who has never been one to shy away from an argument with RM, is on board with this and thinks at some point in the future all Doms will be pushed into this way of thinking. Just saying what's happening where I work.
That all sounds good. But if you just looked at the pda actuals for my office you would think there was some massive differences in the rounds because of finishing times. But thats only a tiny part of the story. You could put certain pairings on every round and they would finish an hour early. But put another pairing on every round and they would be over on every round. According to the data one pair of rounds when done "properly" takes between 2 to 3 hours longer, and the only thing they do differently is use a trolley and do less delivery because they dont do any lapsing which other people doing the same round do. Can anyone argue that a lwt adds that much more time on really? 2 to 3 hours delivering is a massive ammount of delivery(5 to 6 hours for the pair) according to their actuals they would only share one round between them, not 2!

IF, and its a big IF, a DOM follows the RM rules to the letter then what Ozzvaldo has written above is how every DO is meant to be run. No one is meant to be going home before end of duty time. I don't personally have a problem with this scenario but a lot of posties do have a problem with it and would not like it enforced in their DO. I do have a problem with not being paid if I go over duty time though.

They'll look at how early you're finishing, say that was 1/2 an hour, they'd work out approx how many delivery points that is and then add that number to your walk
Hahah no they won’t. Where will these magic extra delivery points come from?
From deleting whole walks and reworking all the walks in the DO to incorporate all those address points. Trouble is if it is done using the current computer system then those newly designed walks will still not be equal and there will be some that are too long. Same old story.

How will you ever prove walks are equal? People work at different speeds and every day traffic figures are different. Just because people finish quicker than somebody else doesn’t mean their walk it to small

The problem with bike enthusiasts is they don't realise that hardly anyone used bikes.
The percentage that used bikes is small, even if the bike was ubiquitous in their area.

It doesn't address the fact that delivering parcels on their own is less profitable than delivering letters and parcels together.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Seen other countries such as Belgium use bikes with trailers. I was sort of joking though some areas might work, it’s mostly too unsafe.

I'm just speculating but I think what the business would like as a final delivery model is.

1. As much of the mail sequenced as possible with as little manual sorting as possible.

2. The bare minimum of indoor prep with some form of multiple bundle system and the removal of RM2000 frames.

3. Minimum 5 hr delivery spans, perhaps even longer.

4. One van per delivery.

Should be easy enough to prove that any grouping of 5 walks are reasonably equal - look at the finishing times for the day off cover floater (and/or the leave reserve for that matter), which should be about the same no matter which round they're on if they're equal. Doesn't matter if they're the fastest postie in the office or the slowest, they're presumably going to be the fastest/slowest no matter which round they're on, and their finishing times should reflect this. (Doesn't work for comparing the grouping of course.)

if RM like 25hr contracts how can they increase the delivery span to over 5hrs if there insistent on us working at least 5 days?

Presuming you mean 4. to be 'one person in a van per delivery' I suspect that's more or less what the original plan was but they've now realised that 2. is a no-go for logistical reasons. I would have thought that a 6 hour delivery span would probably be RM's ideal and in fact if they could re-write current full-time contracts to be something like 6 hours per day minimum with up to two hours per day mandatory overtime of required, they'd go with that.

Someone posted elsewhere that in the future the PDA will be used to keep you 'on time and on track' when out on delivery and will be used as a kind of automated line manager to ask for reasons for delays to be inputted via a list system and that then flagged to a real manager for investigation/action upon return to the office. A lot of the couriers are currently 'working to PDA' at the moment, so this isn't fanciful, it's round the corner.

but my day off cover doesn't take a meal relief , starts early , doesn't do all the d2ds and won't use a LWT

And like he said they will do the same on the other duties they cover so their times on them deliveries can
Be compared. If they are finishing an hour early on one but say an hour over on another 4 the chances are the one they finish early on is too small and the others too big and therefore not equal
