Three managers leave Bristol Mail Centre in space of four weeks. Mail Centre manager sacked for lying about mail volumes and clearances, escorted out. Production Control Manager leaves to become mail centre manager elsewhere, after putting in changes that increase muscular skeletal injuries. Manager bringing in new revision disappears. Junior managers moved around mail centre into new positions. Engineering manager becomes temporary mail centre manager. Its not that long ago a previous mail centre manager was arrested by police. He should be getting to the end of his rehabilitation course by now, the register lasts longer.

wouldn't mind a little stint in a mail centre 30 years on delivery and would like to finish off in one I am 47 now think be a good move or bad ??

You'd probably have to move over to Angard. The way it's going eventually near enough all MC staff will be agency

We're outnumbered by casuals on the shift that i'm on virtually everyday now. It can only be a matter of time before they look at doing the same in deliveries

They've tried casuals on delivery.
It doesn't work for three reasons.

1. Nobody wants to do delivery for minimum wage.

2. It takes about 3 months for a postie to get up to speed or be anything near efficient, by that time they qualify for full rate pay under AWR so no financial incentive for the business.

3. The delivery role requires working with little or no management supervision which means major mail security/integrity problems for the business.

Like I said they tried it and it was a major fail.

THERE USED TO BE A CHOICE THAT ONCE YOU WERE HITTING THE LATE FOURTIES EARLY FIFTIES YOU COULD TRANSFER TO A MAIL CENTRE TO A NICE EASY DUTY ON DOOR, BAGROOM, NIGHTS TO BUILD UP PENSION ECT BUT THAT'S ALL GONE. IF IT GOES ALL AGENCY IN THE MAIL CENTRES THEY WILL START ON DELIVERY. REMEMBER WHEN THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD REMAIN A PREDOMINANTLY FULLTIME EMPLOYER. TOTALL BULLSHIT. CASUALISATION, COMING TO AN OFFICE NEAR YOU WHILE TEA AND BICCIES ON THE EMBANKMENT.

What was the typical contents of the "Door" and "Bagroom" duties? I've not heard of them so I'm assuming that they've long gone from MCs. In a MC you don't stay in one area, you'll be moved around between flats, letters, large parcels, small parcels, conveyors (for MCs that have them) and Tracked as needed. Those who are iLSM/IMP, T2K (for MCs that have them), CFC (normally just late shifts in MCs that have them) or CSS trained you can be moved onto them to cover as needed, near enough the same with the SD locker as for the mech

At Mount Pleasant MC bagroom duties were mainly cleaners' duties, consisting of receiving empty tipped bags from the floor, taking out torn bags, putting dirty bags into industrial washing machine, refolding bags and putting them on pallets to go back onto floor. The only opg duties were the phg duty in charge of the bagroom, and the duties collecting the bags from round the floor and transferring them to the bagroom in the basement, and taking the pallets of folded bags back up. Sometimes opgs did the folding and stacking, usually on overtime.
Door duties were also not opg duties, but Doorkeeper grade duties, at a desk on entrances, checking staff passes and signing in visitors. Sometimes if there weren't enough doorkeepers on duty an opg might cover a duty.

Don't think we've ever had such a duty, at least in the time that i've worked for RM

Closest is the front desk, staff passes don't get checked. Not sure if it might be classes as a specialist duty

I think the front desk at MP is now staffed by staff from a private security firm, wearing suits, and staff tap into electronic entry barriers with their passes. There are I think six other entrances, but they are also mainly accessed now with electronic passes, except for vehicle gates where there are still Doorkeepers.

I work in a mail centre and I have a duty in large parcels I move no where unless they decide to fail my area for letters for obvious reasons

Your MC must have plenty of staff, send some of them our way as we're always short on staff
