Backdated pay for Angard

Post by Lockardian »

Finally an update:
We are writing to tell you that we will be amending your pay rates from Monday 22nd October 2018 to reflect the 5% increase in basic pay and the shorter working week agreement negotiated with the CWU by the Royal Mail Group. You will receive this increase with effect from 1st October 2018 and the back pay owed from 1st October 2018 to 21st October 2018 will be paid on Friday 26th October 2018.

You will also receive back pay for the 5% increase in basic pay for any hours worked from Monday 30th July through to Monday 30th September 2018 on Friday 26th October 2018.

Unfortunately due to an administration error, the back pay paid to you on 24th of August 2018 for the hours worked in July was double paid. In order to recoup the overpaid amount, the overpayment will be deducted from the back pay being paid this Friday.

If you have any queries, please contact the Angard Payroll team through the Help Centre on the Angard website.
TL;DR / SUMMARY
We will be paid the new rate for shifts worked this week and in future.
We will get back pay for 30 July-30 Sept this Friday (26 Oct)
We will also get back pay for 1-21 October on Friday (26 Oct)
They will take back half the back pay for 1-29 July because they overpaid us - will be deducted from pay this Friday (26 Oct)
No mention of any change to break procedure - presumably these remain unpaid.
There is now a shorter working week - implies that our overtime rates (which are lower than standard rates!) now kick in after less hours (was 35hrs40mins).

I personally still have no response about how they calculate back pay and why my initial back payment for Oct 2017-Jun 2018 appeared to be substantially short.

I asked about this, 34hrs 40mins is now the start point for o/t rates. They couldn't give me any individual hourly rates for my MC so it's wait and see if o/t rates have increased to compensate for the one hour off the week. It's only around Christmas I could even be affected by o/t rates. Apparently the payroll systems have been updated but they haven't got access to a full breakdown of the new rates yet.

Thinking about it, the overtime hours kicking in at 34hours 40 mins implies that we are not getting paid breaks otherwise o/t would start at 38 hours?

What about Tea-Breaks if you have 30 mins deducted and R.M. staff are paid , you are not being treated equally .
If R.M. staff are given 60 mins Tea-Break in a 8 hour shift and Angard are given 30 mins , you are not being treated equally .
If you can't get in the building and R.M. staff can come and go as they please , then you are not being treated equally .
Looks like Angard are being defiant on the rest of the issue's brought up by E.A.T.
I think Angard should brace themselves for a sh@t load of Tribunals .

Agree with nothingatthemoment it doesn’t come across in the recent e- mail that tea breaks are now fully paid will see next week now the backpay and 5 % wage increases kicks in. but it doesn’t look likely from the recent reply the subject of access into the building is a major bugbear of mine happening on both my shifts this week were I am waiting for RM to turn up so I can get in the gate and then into the building when there is no one manning the door. simple thing to implement you would think but they don’t care a jot. I have been with Angard umpteen years and it’s not good I can’t get in my place of work easily on the days I am there. Equal terms my arse no such thing I have never felt equal casuals never will be in my opinion just a number to the mail no matter how long you have been there . I like my depot and the majority at the place are great but I have been there long enough to figure out that a minority usually long term RM don’t like casuals and look down on them as untrained idiots .

Just to update others as promised, I have finally today received a breakdown of the back pay I received in July after substantial chasing. In the end I resorted to emailing a member of payroll staff who had previously assisted with other matters, as no response was forthcoming from the payroll inbox despite my numerous emails and escalation requests. It still took over a month to receive the breakdown from the point I began direct communications with this staff member - and in total over five months from the date of my first email. She was even told by superiors it was “resolved” and was most surprised to learn I hadn’t been contacted by her manager!

Anyway, Angard now agree there is a discrepancy and will do a full recalculation and hopefully a payment will follow. This member of payroll staff has been exceptionally helpful and understanding but it really isn’t good enough to blatantly ignore fine months worth of emails sent via the “proper” channel.

Seems Angard can't get anything right, despite having over a year to get it sorted.
The "proper" channel should be re-named the " couldn't be ar@ed " channel.
