on a positive note at least in this revision everybody's finishing time are the same regardless of contracted hours.

Managers are supposedly enforcing this on us 1st November.
I reckon it’ll also be gone by 1st December. No way are managers gonna put themselves in a position to get in trouble over failures. Last Christmas every walk had AT LEAST 2 loops left over from Christmas Eve and countless oversized. Naturally they got a huge bollocking from area manager, some of them just looked ill from the amount of stress it puts on them.
Ideally everyone would stick to their guns over Christmas period and just cut off to put higher ups in the s**t. Customers would suffer but it would most likely ease pressure on posties and put a stop to the iron fist...for a while.

Customers is a non issue, so long as you are doing your job correctly, not taking the piss you dont owe it to anyone to work past your contracted hours, if the deliveries fail because of this, again, it is a management issue by not sufficiently staffing for the busiest time of the year.MinTee wrote: Ideally everyone would stick to their guns over Christmas period and just cut off to put higher ups in the s**t. Its really not THAT difficult for DOMs, they can go around in October, find out how many people are likely willing to work OT during xmas pressure, they then have an idea of what staffing resources they will need. Do they ever do this ? No. They just expect everyone to work 2 hours over.

They come round near Xmas and ask if you'll commit to deliver. Daft folk who do tend to find they get snowed under.

People think they're being helpful and are helping the management plan their resourcing. All they're doing is setting themselves up for 18:00 finishes.

Ah Xmas....the time of the year when managers need extra staff so they get staff in to work their day off to deliver those parcels but then have no vans available to deliver them in.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

If the LAT really takes off then it wouldn't surprise me to see 18:00 finishes for DOs anywaySir Henry wrote:All they're doing is setting themselves up for 18:00 finishes.

Thankfully our d.o. doesn't appear on the list for LAT hubs.

SA collections hours in all DOs are the next thing in line to be reduced and cost cutted. DOs that wish to secure existing work hours will already be looking to snap up any LAT work that is available. The expectation is that more companies will sign up to use the LAT service. I don't think the LAT duty work will be popular with posties if they used on a regular basis to clear lapsed or cut off loops & walks.SpacePhoenix wrote:If it takes off then RM might introduce LAT duties in EVERY DOSir Henry wrote:Thankfully our d.o. doesn't appear on the list for LAT hubs.

Apart from the suggestion that walks should have different walk lengths or finish times I don't see anything wrong with this policy. We are paid to have breaks and it should be possible to take them within our duty time. If it is not possible or if we are doing work unpaid to get the job done then walk lengths need to be revised and/or more walks need to be made. We are not volunteers and RM is not a charity shop!!leolion855 wrote:our office has joined the world of taking breaks before you leave, meaning full-timers sat around until just before ten if there partnered with a p/t even if everything's in the van and ready to go, and we're not being allowed to leave the office before finishing time, weather that's to go home or take overtime out, as a result no one is taking overtime out any more!

Later Acceptance Times. It is so companies can access our mail stream at a later point in time but still get parcels delivered the next day.mattycash wrote:Whats LAT stand for?

I’ve been doing a LAT duty cover a huge area at the moment. That’s supposed to be shirking next week and over Xmas we will only be doing our own offices work.
