Hayes Delivery Office to ballot !
Hayes DO, Middx, is being balloted from today. The dispute is about two members dismissed about bringing mail back after their duty had finished.

Hayes Delivery Office to ballot !
The Hayes unit will be participating in a ballot for industrial action in November 2018. The ballot will take place with our Hayes CWU members from the 18/10 to 25/10.
The proposed industrial action/support is due to the unfair dismissal(s) of two of our members who could not deliver an amount of mail, (over two days), and as a result local management ignored an agreed national process with the Communication Workers Union for over running deliveries. The appeals process has taken place and we are awaiting the decision(s). The Branch have also submitted an ET claim for both of our members.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

this is the BIG issue cwu have bottled
this delivering everything you take out is a sham
a means to force people to work overtime and cover up their failures in delivery
we need to start to work to time IN FACT ie finish time on clock is finish time end of
anyone who wants to work over fair enough
but this union need to fully back up membership at national level
we now have less working time with 12 min sww reduction but the bullying and threats are increasing and royal mail ARE breaking national agreements piecemeal at delivery offices all over as they know cwu will not take industrial action on a national scale
WAKE UP CWU we the membership demand action and support
royal mail are walking all over you

RE: Unfair Dismissals At Hayes Delivery Office
Dear John,
We hope this letter finds you well.
As Babis, (Hayes Delivery office CWU representative has informed you), the Hayes unit will be participating in a ballot for industrial action in November 2018.
This type of executive managerial action is obviously a tactic in which would send a message to all of our members in the HA/UB area to work faster, harder and for free, and it is these actions in which the Branch have made the (correct) decision to push back an employer, who since privatisation have forgotten who actually makes Royal Mail a success, our members.
The Branch covers delivery offices and a mail centre & network in the HA/UB area, and we see the effect of privatisation on a daily basis, and to add further we also witness the “con” of privatisation of Royal Mail. For example, two of our members in Hayes delivery office have been dismissed for an alleged charge of wilful delay of mail. However, in the Stanmore delivery office, the employer has not employed adequately, (deliberately in our view), and has planned to fail the mail, or the terminology used by senior management is “declared failure of universal service obligations”. This is the reality of privatisation of Royal Mail.
The Communication Workers Union, and certainly the Harrow & District Branch are appalled on any mail left over night and sitting in delivery offices and not delivered. It appears that the common practice by the employer is to declare the failed service on a conference call without any social nor business conscience whatsoever.
The Branch are aware on letter decline but equally do not subscribe to the business attitude of accelerating that decline. The CWU nationally are well aware of the fourth industrial/digital revolution and are better equipped than Royal Mail to deal with this as well as the CWU are better equipped by “taking our people with us”, and improving our members terms and conditions as well as, (successfully) fighting for our members pensions. Royal Mail have also embarked on a delivery office closure debacle, (in our area they are proposing the closure of Northolt and Wembley delivery offices), not to better the service, but to limit and worsen the service.
We also believe that the current terminology from Royal Mail management used in our business/service currently is “efficiency”. This is also driven by a regulator, Ofcom who are constantly striving to worsen our members terms and conditions, and pressuring Royal Mail to adopt a business model (as some European postal services) in which operate solely on zero hours contracts. Furthermore, support and promote competitors to “cherry pick” Royal Mail’s network and deliver competitors mail, (the final mile), at a loss. The number of competitors mail our members deliver, (at a loss to Royal Mail) has increased significantly. Our members are informed regularly by Royal Mail of “letter decline”, we would perhaps have more respect for them if they were honest and declared a profit decline in letters.
We are also dismayed by the recent announcement by the government on the closure of high street crown post offices. We also note that since the separation of Royal Mail letters, (privatised) and post office counters, (state owned), the attack on our post office counter members and terms and conditions are actually more aggressive. This “action” is certainly supported by this current government we have no doubt.
The CWU Harrow & District Branch message to the employer is quite clear – laptops, profit and spend spreadsheets, Power Point presentations do not, nor have not made this service the greatest and best postal service in the world giving 6 days a week service, it is our members. Too add – when you hand over all of that profit to the shareholders, in which is from our members hard work and sheer goodwill to deliver, process, collect, and transport mail to all over the UK. Rain, sun or shine, remember this - our members are the jewels in that Royal Mail crown.
Kind Regards

Hayes Delivery Office to ballot !
What bloody hypocrites RM are,on one hand they push you to the limits and more on delivery, then on the other they have come up with this idea that the postie can talk to the old and lonely. It just goes to show how bloody out of touch they really are, most posties keep an eye on the old and lonely and have done for years, think someone in RM has come up with this idea to make themselves look good, well sorry you are a bit slow off the mark. You should really take a look at what a postie actually does!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As the bullying behaviour of DOMs is so widespread and the problem of overrunning/cutting off and being penalised when following these nationally agreed policies, then the whole membership should be being balloted. I would gladly strike tomorrow if it meant the slightest chance that staff would be treated with the dignity and respect we were promised.
Following accepted procedures and then being dismissed for it is totally ludicrous and it infuriates me.

When will RM ever realise that the postie is the backbone of RM,the face of RM and without them there would be no RM,and stop treating them with such contempt.

It certainly needs to be less confrontational and less intimidating but what would be an alternative solution?lightningpostman wrote:the over tunning procedure needs to be revised and make it less stressful and confrontational for all our members, bring a end to this nonsense the back and forward Bull , home time is just that , ive worked my hours im going home.
In previous jobs, I've always been asked nicely if i want to stay and work over my time. 'Asked' not expected. Then thanked when I have done so. Why is RM the complete opposite.

at your finish time various options for break selected, ie 20 mins mid day 20mins nar end, full 40 minutes mid day etc, pda will ask you b4 your due to finish ("alert your contracted hours are almost complete " estimated journey time to office and bringing in all 739's van keys etc 20 mins , pda will say do you want to continue and get paid overtime or do you want to cut off, select a option and then a) go back to do and bring everything back and let managers sort it out or B) work overtime to complete.DrSatan wrote:It certainly needs to be less confrontational and less intimidating but what would be an alternative solution?lightningpostman wrote:the over tunning procedure needs to be revised and make it less stressful and confrontational for all our members, bring a end to this nonsense the back and forward Bull , home time is just that , ive worked my hours im going home.

I obviously haven't clue what's gone on in the particular case but more generally I find it's fine if you're firm with them. I TELL them what I'm leaving if I'm going to be late, there's no conversation about it. "I'm leaving x because I'm going to be late" end of conversation. On the rare occasion I misjudge it I'll hang around out there till my finish time. The trouble with bringing stuff back is you aren't giving them time to get the work covered; we're advised by our rep NEVER to take work you're not gonna complete because they can habe you for wilful delay.
