Like the EU and Brexit management will always screw over the individual to deter the collective from following their path. Unless colleagues stand together and work together to protect each other management will continue to do ...fuckall. We are our own worst enemies at times, we point and accuse and call each other lazy for not completing the workload or idiots for coming in early and we stare at our shoes when someone else is being bullied and where does it get us?

to be honest we don't give a s**t what our so called work collegues think of us , because on our day off its a different story our work collegues not mates work the opposite to how we work , so yes we are s**t and tossing it off , lol , and yes we should all stand together and that starts by doing the job right from start to finish and yes we would stand and help staff that are being singled out but you need to wipe your own arse before you can expect others to wipe it for you , im just sick of why members don't support the cwu and do the job right .

I take it your level of representation is poor otherwise you wouldn't be getting screwed over by management. A lot of members ignore the union because they believe at least on a local level the union has ignored them. Without help they find a solution that works for them, in many cases that can mean avoiding confrontation with management by starting early, not taking a break or not booking overtime.

WORKTOTIME. Has hit the nail on the head here , most staff do not use LWT , take meal reliefs and start on time . All this is doing is crapping on those who do the job to the agreed spec by RM which in turn is not giving a true reflection on workloads

It's a very old nail that's been battered to death on here for many years, without addressing the reason why people do what they do all we're doing is wearing the hammer out.

Reason 1 ........ Crap at job Or. Reason 2 ....... Unrealistic workload and too scared to confront management

You're doing the same work in less time. Exactly what royal mail and the unon (who are up their rears) wanted. That's not silly and could be argued, very fair, if you can do same work but finish on time, it must mean you were early before. Only ones it really benefits are ones with large rounds that are now getting an hr extra docket a week for 46 weeks a yr.........and the part timers who are getting their pay rise all 52 weeks a yr.

It's very difficult to be crap at this job at least to the point where it would require starting 30 minutes or more early to make it up, the bar is very low and most of the time management are far too lazy to get involved unless it's personal so realistically we're looking at unrealistic workload and a fear of confrontation.

What it says about an office and its staff that members are overloaded with work and so scared of management that they'll turn up for work early rather than seek the support of their rep and colleagues I'll leave for you to work out yourself.

Reason 3: Loyalty to 'our customers' but not particularly to RM as an entity and just wish to get the job done.
Reason 4: Wish or need to get home on time or maybe a little earlier for family commitments, football etc etc.
Reason 5: Coming to work earlier but finishing earlier so still working your hours but on a different timescale to how RM would like it to be done.
Reason 6: Walk is known to be longer when walks are designed. Walk is tested by DOM afterwards and found to be too long. Too much hassle involved or not seen to be possible to remedy walk length. IPS removed from walk '318' but isn't an ideal situation and doesn't fully equalise length of walk with other walks. Postie comes in early and sometimes finishes later as well just to get job done. Unpaid work is completed.

The TUC reported on this a while ago. It's happening everywhere across the UK and certainly not just at RM! Billions of pounds of work completed every year unpaid. The union have their heart in the right place but quite frankly the SWW just makes the situation worse. What we should have had instead was an agreement that is fully enforced that all work completed is paid for by RM. We still don't have that! RMs cost cutting plans appear to have hit a brick wall now anyway so I suspect its highly unlikely we will get the remaining hours of SWW implemented.

I Refuse to work for free! :thumbdown I probably fall into the "working my hours BUT on a different timescale from how RM want it done" and TBH the DOM normally pays any OT I book, even though it might not conform to his idea of my duty. This probably has a lot to do with sticking to my guns in the past, and using the Over Running Procedure.... just to make a point sometimes TBH. :thumbup

So far this SWW hasn't impressed me very much. The DOM used a pretty blunt technique to sort it.... just start 12 minutes later Mon-Fri. At least the last time we "Lost" an hour it was taken off the finish time (which I'd have preferred this time, but I understand this is the way RM want to go...later & later). That later start has IMO a negative impact on the work/life balance though, anyone with childcare responsibilities is now finishing a quarter of an hour later (if there's no pressure/OT). :thumbdown As the mail volumes start to pick up I can see a few more Posties saying that they need to be finished on time. :hmmmm

Strangely some of our larger Duties (which previously had no IPS) have now been allocated about 20 minutes IPS! So they're running about 30 mins later than previously. I've yet to figure out who benefits from this, I have a feeling it's "The Chosen Few" who used to come in well before everyone else, in theory to do early IPS (but in reality to prep their own duties :no no ). They've obviously realised that this opportunity no longer exists and they've been hassling the DOM to get more people up on the IPS. :cuppa

This morning we had one post person due to start at 06.20 come in at 04.50, I pointed out to him he's due in at 06.20, but he just laughed it off and took no notice, even though there was hardly any work for him to prep to his walk

It is immediately obvious that the SWW creates more problems than it solves

Starting the shift later when workloads and the job is just the same is only going to put more pressure on staff. How's that going to work when another hour or two then gets taken off the working week and theres still 4 or 5 lots of D2Ds, 2 waves of mech, buddy trays and mixed packets to sort? The idea that we start later and later in the day because this one magic wave of mech is going to solve all our problems is short sighted because it is apparent that a lot of mail and catalogues cannot be run through machines in sequence order. At the moment, part-timers are coming in on time and are having to prep their duties and the reason for this is rather than saving indoor time the managers seem to be giving us full-timers more indoor prep work to do. In which case, it means we leave the office later and there is no scope for larger duties. All this SWW seems to be doing is getting posties to either cut off or claim overtime - the exact opposite of what it was intended. And for those who come in early, whether full or part-time, thats their choice, but it is making the unmanageable look manageable and if these posties ever reverted back to type i.e. decided one week to start on time, then the sh*t would really hit the proverbial fan. But managers don't seem to care because they are not responsible for walks failing as its becoming increasingly difficult for them to do any form of delivery work (just document more pie-charts and bar graphs I suppose) and the sooner we offload their salaries off the balance sheet the better in my view.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

One wave will never happen as it would result in some DOs not getting their sequenced mail until late afternoon. If we do move further towards a 35hr week then the amount of time for sequencing goes down and so less mail can be sequenced. Generally mail like catalogues can't be run through any machines anyway

The whole thing should've been knocked on the head for another 12 months. To be honest as a part timer it means I've had a rise, but the full timers being late off the sorting has a knock of for us all. Our lino phoned me today asking if I'd come in an hour early to prep my own walk tomorrow, fine by me, but it means they haven't got the full timers to do it as they're expecting it to busy and they want them sorting so they're not off as late as last week as virtually everybody went over. Bloody nightmare currently. It ain't even that busy, yet! Christmas is gonna be carnage.
