If you are part time then your duty is probably meant to be prepped for you. Do you get paid overtime for going in early and prepping your duty?

I go in at 8 (my start time) and often there are boxes of mail waiting to go into frames; I have to check the IPS shelves regularly; I have to sort out all of my parcels and packets into my route. Then I do the redirects. Then I tie up. Then I get my pda, login and download the route. Then I go for a final toilet visit as I know there aren't any on the route. Then I go out, ensuring I have plenty of P739s and a working biro.

In terms of overtime, DM is very reluctant to pay me any when I run over. I've only been there 6 weeks and struggle to finish on time. My official finish time is 1pm and I have only achieved that once and when I did I was sent out with more mail.

RM owes me over 12 hours in overtime.

I feel totally demoralised and victimised. DM is not hassling anyone else for trying to claim overtime. The fact tat I am still awake at 4am demonstrates just how much this job is upsetting me.

You work 8 - 1 that is five hours, and are due a 30 min break. You should be doing 4 1/2 hrs work. Unless it is some kind of special, small duty, I would bet that you are meant to go in, bundle up and leave.

I'm on a 30 hr contract, 6 hrs a day, and do far less than you. In fact you've described my indoor work, except I don't prep anything.

Find out of there is a work place coach, ask him to show you the walklog. Ask to see in writing exactly what your duty structure is, you need to know exactly what you are meant to be doing. If you don't get a LOAD of help finding this out, explain this to your rep. Get his help.

What needs to happen is get the rep to sort it out if he cannot will not do it go above him/her these bully boy/girl managers were the same bullies at school which everyone suffered from unless you stuck up for yourself and others did that for you. The culture in ROYAL MAIL needs changing but nothing will happen till the element of bonus culture is changed once and for all and this was not in the last agreement we voted for change not just dressing up an outdated over running procedure because it looks good with no action required to think of how times have changed since the way forward agreement!

There is no work place coach.
There is no training.
There is no staff development plan.
I have never seen a walklog and doubt if any exist in my DO. There are no maps tracing a route, just frames and numbers numbers numbers.
A newbie who started last week is now out there alone, going over their time daily and has not been told about overtime or how to claim.
My walk has increased to 15km over the past week - presumably due to the volume of door-to-doors and pre-Christmas marketing traffic. I am on my feet from 8am until I return to the DO at around 1.30-2pm). No toilet break. No breaks at all in fact.
I seriously doubt if a duty structure has ever been prepared for any of the routes or jobs in my DO. It is chaotic, but ironically when the current manager is absent the place runs more smoothly and the mood is lighter.

DOM actually expects staff to work for free! He refused my overtime claim on Friday. Only an hour and a half, but it's an hour and a half I could have been at home. This morning I very nearly just stayed in bed when the alarm went off. Just didn't see the point of yet another Groundhog Day.
