Is Angard worth it?
I have a document assessment day tomorrow and all of this reads quite grim. Is it worth it, in the run up to Christmas? Are there more shifts available at this time?

To be honest a full time job is better than working a zero contract. But it’s ok if you get enough shifts and your doing it at the right time your unlikely to get to your 12 weeks AWR and get the higher rate. but the shifts are there at Christmas if that’s the idea .in the long term it’s difficult to make it pAy especially if it’s your only income as it can get quiet at times but it does suit some. if I get a couple of shifts a week I’m happy I work nights at my depot and have been there nearly 4 years once you get to the highest rate which is after a years service the money is good especially if you can pick up a weekend shift the job easy enough to pick up after a while and my MC is ok and the hours suit me and I like the fact if I don’t fancy working I don’t take the shift . You get breaks and holiday pay but no sick pay Angard are useless as you will hear from others but if you play the game and it suits your needs it’s ok for what it is.

Be prepared to be frustrated with a lot of shifts being cancelled, and a lot of work will be expected of you compared to Royal Mail staff, the rate of pay is good once you reach AWR but a 6 week gap in work and you're back to minimum wage. Your consutlant can also be difficult to deal with in regards for asking why your shifts have been cancelled or any help you you ask them for with anything, good luck

worked there for 5 years the job is ok once you get into it and the money does go up if you can get regular shifts but dealing with angard is a night mare just be prepared to be mucked about and have shifts cancelled once your on site . after the crap i had over the years i would not trust angard 1 inch try to go through royal mail site direct , may not be as much work but less likely to get jacked about

Makes no difference if you do Christmas with Royal Mail or Angard though it does depend on the site .cosi1259 wrote:worked there for 5 years the job is ok once you get into it and the money does go up if you can get regular shifts but dealing with angard is a night mare just be prepared to be mucked about and have shifts cancelled once your on site . after the crap i had over the years i would not trust angard 1 inch try to go through royal mail site direct , may not be as much work but less likely to get jacked about

If you haven’t worked for ANGARD for more than a few weeks, you will be on basic National Minimum Wage.
Royal Mail Christmas Casualsxare, I believe on £9.50/hour.
Go for Royal Mail

Depends where you work. Most mail centre in SCOTLAND and North of England are minimum wage of £7:83 an hour. Pish. With an extra 50p an hour for nightshift. Pish. As you get nearer London it goes up but London central is only paying the £7:83 per hour when all around like Croydon are paying between £10 to £12:40 an hour depending on shift. That's just taking the piss and they wonder why they get the quality of staff for that money in london. The centre manager must be a total prick and I hope he reads this.

I believe Gatwick pay £7.83 for the first 12 worked weeks.
Then it increases to the ‘equivalent ‘ of the basic RM rate.
There’s a ruse after 6 / 12 months.
I’ve been there 29 months and am now on £14.20/hour for 28:15 - 22:15 shift.
No complaint about the pay rate; lots of complaints about other matters.
£14.20 is a remarkable rate compared to similar work in other firms locally.

Once you’ve completed 12 weeks (that is, received 12 payslips - weeks you don’t work do not count) the pay rates are pretty good. I’ve had full time jobs where I’ve earned less in a whole week than I’ve earned for 20 hours work at Angard. The problem is that there can be very little work outside of busy times of the year - but this seems to vary between mail centres.
