If the office hasn't agreed it yet is 28 days notice on change in agreed duty times still relevant or is it executive decision?
We are not even close yet so 1st October isn't happening.

I guess it's the area or higher union person in our area that would like the hour of SWW time to be taken off the end of the duty. RM want it to come off the start and make later start times. RM have just called our bluff and asked to have a meeting with our office DOM & office union rep to discuss the area disagreement. Our DOM & rep didn't feel able to defend the area reps position so our office will now be one of the first to adopt the next hour of SWW in early October. It sounds like we will get additional hours put into the office though. Should be obvious to everyone really that the amount of work won't go down just because we introduce SWW. Union is still saying it's a good thing but to me it just seems a paperwork exercise.eastie wrote:What area is that Celgar that is having a dissagreement about not having the time taken off at the end of the dutyCelgar wrote:Early in October apparently. There is a union disagreement over it in our area over it not being taken from the end of duty time so we will have to wait longer. I'm in no hurry for it to happen anyway.kevbo wrote:Has a national date for this been agreed yet? Heard nothing about it at our office.
I won't say here which area I'm in (Walls have ears.....) but I get the impression the CWU may be pushing generally to get the SWW taken off the end of duties. RM seem to be deploying the usual divide and rule politics so yet again every office will get a different result.

It's likely to be off the beginning of te duties for DOs, with the mail arriving at MCs later, it's only a matter of time before RM put back all dispatches to DOs back by at least an hour

If the shorter working week isn't implemented on the 1st of October do we get paid 1 hours overtime a week for continuing to work 39 hours?
I'm guessing not and the decision as to where the hour and future hours come off should be down to individual offices to decide not royal mail this is what we were sold by visiting union reps, the cracks are starting to appear already and everything seems to have gone very quiet.

After making us start at 6.45 instead of 6.15 on Tuesdays, I like to know how they are going to fit in the WTL, as they can't fit it in with the 6.15 start.

For MCs it's probably going to mean 12 mins of the start of each shiftSW17 wrote:the decision as to where the hour and future hours come off should be down to individual offices to decide not royal mail this is what we were sold by visiting union reps

The standard option is to add 12 minutes to the start times each day as happened with the first hour of SWW. Every individual office can discuss and decide how to distribute the sixty minutes across the week to make later start times. If a union disagreement is ongoing in your area you cannot get it sorted in your office until the disagreement is remedied. The alternative scenario is that RM target your office and ask your manager and local union rep to defend the area disagreement. It's likely your manager and rep won't feel able to defend the disagreement themselves and this will allow your office to be removed from the disagreement and set up the second hour of SWW.
Apparently the CWU are currently campaigning to stop any more automation/mechanisation in MCs to avoid any job losses. Additional automation or sequencing of mail is what will enable more hours of SWW to happen though. The SWW is the CWUs pet project though and it's main objective is to save and secure our jobs. Funny old world......

You won't get any more sequencing with a SWW if anything you'll get less sequencing as you'll reduce the time available for sequencing. There's not enough flats now to justify any automation (I wouldn't be surprised if RM start decommissioning flat sorting machines at some point). Many MCs won't have the room for parcel sorting machines.Celgar wrote:Additional automation or sequencing of mail is what will enable more hours of SWW to happen though. Capacity to sequence more flats is being increased in the main MC that serves our DO. We don't receive sequenced flats at the moment but our DOM reckons it won't be long before it happens. Then they will want more hours out of our office.....SpacePhoenix wrote:You won't get any more sequencing with a SWW if anything you'll get less sequencing as you'll reduce the time available for sequencing. I'm surprised at that given how many packets and letters (both mech and non-mech) that we're getting through in our boxes of flats and many of the boxes don't have many flats inCelgar wrote:Capacity to sequence more flats is being increased in the main MC that serves our DO. Union rep and DOM have asked everyone to stop coming in early. Organised a resign for some walks, and want 14 part time duties, and as the SWW comes into effect there will be walks evened out.
But hey, 90% of the office is still coming in early and rushing around.
