Can a stage be issued before a referral to OH has been done?

If its not is it down in an agreement/writing so it can be used as evidence to prove that procedure hasn't been followed?

Basically yes the stage reviews are set when the amount of days or absences have breached the RM standards at each level.
The introduction of OH Assist reports/recommendations is information gathering depending on the medical condition should the absence be covered by the Equality Act and the absence discounted for absence calculation purposes or a rehabilitation plan on a RTW.
If it was a stage3 review prompt for consideration of dismissal it would be adviseable for that manager with the authority to dismiss to ensure that he has all available information at hand which includes occupation health reports before a decision was made.

OH referrals can take months, the decision to issue a stage review should be made with all relevant information available at the earliest opportunity after a return to work.

Any information provided by OH is unlikely to make any difference to the decision making process unless they discovered something that neither you nor your own GP were aware of at the time of the review stage. In that case this additional information would be used as mitigation in any further reviews. Nowhere in the attendance procedure does it block the issuing of review stages until OH are involved. If it did we would all just ask for an OH referral every time we had the flu. I'm afraid your rep is wrong.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Mistype on my part, not my union rep as it looks in the earlier post. OH referral is to confirm the individual comes under the equality act with a long term medical issue that is known by their GP and they've been treated for. Multiple sick absences triggered the stage being issued and numerous requests for a referral prior to this were refused by the managers involved.

Stage issuing procedure

Hi

I had a stroke and was off for 7 months, I was very seriously ill. On day 1 of my return I was told i was having an attendance review with a manager arranged, ( nice touch,
just the stress needed on my return) And at that meeting I was told I was being given a stage 2 - even though I had never even been given a stage 1 - ever! When I expressed my disapointment at being staged for non attendance/poor attendance because of the time away recovering from my stroke, I was told by the manager it was just matter of course and out of their control, with no right to appeal The fact I was in lying in a hospital bed the day it was triggered was neither here nor there!

I am aware of an agreement between CWU and RM regarding long term sickness absence and the ability of personnel/lino to discount the absence on these occasions towards issuing a stage. Not sure why a life changing serious illness dosent count towards this agreement?, or is being totally ignored by personnel/lino, but it does show how little they really care - they do only what they have to, thats it. Not what common sense says they should do!

You couldnt make it up!
