"Commit to Deliver"
To be fair our rep has always advised us to NEVER take out work if you're not gonna complete. If you're cutting off leave it in the fitting but obviously advise them you're not taking it. It's what I've always done and never had an issue. You need to give them chance to get the work covered was my understanding, they're not gonna be able to do that if they don't know how much they've got to cover.

You are supposed to inform the screws what you can deliver, THEY make the decision as to send you out with the whole walk and you bring back stuff or send you out but leave in stuff you can't deliver. We need to get rid of the multiple terms for the same thing, I.e. Cutting off, handing back, leaving in, it's all there to confuse and obfuscticate. Ask your rep wtf they're doing.gand wrote:Wee got told by our Union rep today sorry I mean royal mails Union rep. That wee cannot bring mail back and must leave it instead. So what is going on can wee not cut off anymore? Anyone got clarification on this? I see this as a form of entrapment as if you leave to much you will be be brought down on the conduct code?

Always a struggle when you’re a reserve and don’t know the walk well enough to judge whether you’ll finish in time. I only ever tell them I don’t know if I’ll finish, I take it out just in case.

... and with the amount of walks they're lapsing there shouldn't be a lack of spare men to complete the walk

I don't have too much of a problem with delivering everything on a daily basis. The main problem is getting paid the extended if we go over duty time. They just don't want to pay it.mindstate1984 wrote:So we had our manager round the other day saying that from here on out if you take mail out of the office you are obliged to deliver it all regardless of whether that will take you past your finish time. You have to let them know before you go out and put the ball in their court but obviously it is not always that straight forward.
Basically, can they legally tell you to work past your scheduled finish time and what could the repercussions of bringing mail back even after being told to stay out?

There is an updated 'commit to deliver' joint statement which came out last year reiterating the Overrunning Delivery procedure.
This is for those screws who write their own agreements and make it up as they go along...

Where an employee is prevented from completing their delivery for any reason, it is essential that
this is reported immediately, either by returning to the office or by phone. A written record will be
kept. All employees should be informed of the local authorised arrangements in writing.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

and remember Employment laws are just that, the law, and they trump RM rules no matter who makes them up.
No one can force you to work over your weekly hours, keep records and just say we can take it to court if you like.

Hmm wouldn't thst leave you open to grief for taking photos on RM property? Also if your o/t book is anything like ours you'd be photographing more than just your own details...just a word to the wise.
