I find my mind wanders too much if I listen to music. Whoops half a street of misdeliveries.

Music is a bad idea, in my opinion. It really does take you into your own world. Crossing roads and things with music going is dangerious. Plus it's easy to drop parcels and things and not realise. I do use blutooth headphones but it's usually podcasts, or talk radio like Talksport, LBC, 5live ect. It's something to listen to but you're still aware of what's going on around you.

Hawksby and Jacobs is great, there's one I'm listening to called Walking the Dog with Emily Dean, which is various comedians being interviewed Lee Mack, Rob Brydon, Johnathan Ross, Ross Noble etc is really good. I listen to the BBC Food and the Duolingo Spanish, and another called David Baddiel tries to Understand, not sure how I find time to deliver to be honest..........kingeric wrote:What podcasts do people listen to? A deaf person has usually lived their whole life without hearing so they build coping mechanisms. Equating this to an H&S issue when the noise (that a deaf person won't hear) of music and voices may distract you is grasping at straws.
In the end, the business doesn't need to say why they ban them, its a reasonable request and you can ignore it if you wish. Just do so in the full knowledge of the possible implications, both safety and employment wise.

At the end of the day you do what you want to do, we can only answer a question that is asked, what you do with the answer is up to you.
Everything will be fine until that day, that day where something happens and a screw will suddenly be aware of your health and safety and do what said screw has to do.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I never said a deaf person would wear headphones. I think you know what I'm getting at too by the way.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Why would deaf people wear headphones?kingeric wrote:

But the point remains, if you have a loss of hearing then your observations need to be sharper and you need to be aware of it regardless of whether you have been deaf all your life or not.
Regardless of what the official ruling is I can honestly say I have never been given or signed anything to say I can't wear earphones. Until then I'll continue to do so
