What is Poppyscotland?
Poppyscotland is the charity that supports veterans and their dependants in Scotland. It was founded in 1921 under the name of The Earl Haig Fund Scotland by Field Marshal Earl Haig, Commander-in-Chief of the British Army in France, 1915-1919, to provide practical help to ex-Service men, women and dependants in need.
Why the Poppy?
Inspired by John McCrae's poem, In Flanders Fields, the poppy became the symbol of remembrance for those who gave their lives for their country and the first Poppy Appeal was held in November 1921.
What happened to the name Earl Haig Fund Scotland?
We introduced a new title – Poppyscotland - to cover our expanding functions, especially round-the-year fundraising. We believe that not enough people understand the link between the Earl Haig Fund Scotland and the Scottish Poppy Appeal. The new title will remove this problem. We hope that everyone from school pupils upwards will now understand the association.
The name Earl Haig Fund Scotland will not disappear but will continue to be the legally registered name.

Absolutely disgraceful as Rememberance Sunday draws near and as an Ex-Serviceman can only view this deplorable action by Royal Mail as contemptious at the most.OMV 5 wrote:i wasnt sure werethere to post this thread or not but i will in glasgow mail center they have removed all the poppy boxes for a donation to the earl haig foundation after asking why i was told its was in case we offened anyone . i wear my poppy proudly i was wondering if anyother mail center or other office have this problem

Re: Poppy boxes in the Glasgow Mail Center
It's like that time someone from Liverpool council asked a firm on the Dock Road to remove the St George flags when the World Cup was on in case they offended any Muslims. The local paper got in touch with someone from the council of mosques who said "We're not offended. We're English too and we want England to do well in the World Cup." It will be someone trying to make a name for himself. I've got a few for him.DirtyHarry wrote:The w****r responsible for that barmy decision, a manager is he?OMV 5 wrote:i wasnt sure werethere to post this thread or not but i will in glasgow mail center they have removed all the poppy boxes for a donation to the earl haig foundation after asking why i was told its was in case we offened anyone . i wear my poppy proudly i was wondering if anyother mail center or other office have this problem![]()

Yep, mate ..........People like that seem keen to spread dis-unity where they can't find any. I've a suspicion that they are right-wing nutters in disguise.IWW Fellow Worker wrote:It's like that time someone from Liverpool council asked a firm on the Dock Road to remove the St George flags when the World Cup was on in case they offended any Muslims. More likely that celtc fans will be the offended ones in Glasgow, they take great delight in singing republican terrorist songs and about killing British soldiers, Poppy sellers don't go to parkhead on match days for fear of being attacked, they were the only club last season that didn't have a minutes silence on rememberance day as they knew that their fans would shout through it, they have previous in this as well
