Spot on. In my experience, the ones who 'help out the linos' with a 'yes' after their pleading, are usually the ones who have the most ghost overtime. As you say this can substantially boost the ' hourly rate' .

The way it usually goes with me is I get asked to do some overtime and I reply with how desperate are you. If they say they’ve asked everybody and nobody wants to do it. That when the negotiations start. Best I have had is 4hrs for 40 minutes of work

daveyeff wrote:cos if they had part timers coming in on earlies instead of full timers, it would cost them less, because they don't get the full overtime rate until they reach 39 hours. which would be common sense. but this is RM.
Overtime first 10 hours £11.49
SSPR £12.26.

Is your rep part time? Obviously not otherwise he wouldn't spout such nonsense about "the flow of mail" as a justification for paying full timers instead of part timers.
When they come to do the 6 month review of part time hours as trumpeted in the new agreement, where will those full timer overtime hours be counted?
So the chances of a part timer getting an improved contract will be less to help the flow of mail around the office?

a part timer will only get the basic pay rate for any extra hours worked up to 39 hours, they can only get more if they go over 39 hrs. otherwise they would be on a higher pay for 39 hours than a full timer.....couldn't have that could we.

A part timer doing overtime between his contracted hours and 39 hours is paid at a rate of £12.26/hour.

Here is an idea - why don't we make the full time release union reps part time.
Then we could have twice as many of them.
Northern Ireland could have their own Divisional rep.

It includes the delivery supplement. What is it now 65-70p/hr?
I will send you my pay slip if you don't believe me.

It looks like more but is not. Because part time are only pro rata, then they have that little bit extra on overtime but both are paid exactly the same as a p/t would only have been paid £12:50 delivery supplement for a 19.5 he contract, whereas a f/t has the £25,odds every week. Both are on exactly the same when they reach 39 hours. The only thing is the full-time gets longer breaks and more holidays but that's another rip off from RM. :arrrghhh

No I am saying a part timer's overtime costs more than a full timer's. (up to 39 hours)

I agree with clash.

If you bring in an FT on overtime they will get the First 10-hour rate only, which is less than the hourly rate when the Del Supp is added on top.

When a PT is brought in the get the same hourly rate, plus SSPR to cover the Del Supp.

So yes it's cheaper to bring in FT on docket than a PT.

explain it to me like i'm SIX. cos I just cannot get my head round this. if 2 full timers worked 10 hours each, then they would be paid a flat week PLUS £114.90 OVERTIME. so RM have paid two flat weeks plus £229.80. if 2 part timers on 29 hours each both worked 10 hrs overtime, then RM will pay out TWO FLAT WEEKS. which is LESS than they've paid the two full timers

The best way is to look at it per hour rather than as a total amount.

Basically, if you have an hour going on overtime you will pay the FT the Overtime pay rate of "Fist 10 hours" which works out according to my pay chits @ £10.94 per hour.

Pay a part-timer their basic rate plus Del Sup which is called SSPR it's £11.18 per hour.

(Figures based on last years pay rate - the last time I did any).

the difference will be bigger this year.

Just checked my payslip OT1 1st 10 hrs 1hr £11.49 for full timers
On another note when we move to 38 hrs in Oct our basic hourly rate goes to £11.39 only 10p below our overtime rate and if we move to 37hrs in Oct 2019 our hourly rate surpasses our overtime rate if I am right in thinking the overtime rate does not increase with each hour off
