Why is the union in your offices not calling for a full office count?
Why are you not pushing your rep, your area rep and your branch to demand one?

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I've had managers tell me similar.
They do undoubtedly pick on weaker members of staff to get the job done (which I don't agree with or excuse) but it's because of the relentless bullying they get from above.
The sad thing is most of the doms and linos are in it for the long term and have generally started as posties and moved into management for money/career/physical reasons. But these area managers are often short term fixes who are in the job purely for the figures to take with them to their next job to show how 'great' they are.
You only have to look at the very top of the tree to see this.
In my time at RM I've had 3 Doms (all still in the business at other units) and about 5/6 CEOs who have moved on

well, the rep came back today and I put it to him. what a waste of f*****g time. he shrugged his shoulders and said probably a disgruntled manager stirring the s**t. so I says well why don't the union demand a full office count, he says because there is no justification just going by what an ex-manager says. he said the branch and hq will say the same thing.

Do you get an individual breakdown by walk?
The mech is counted by machine. They should be able to tell you the figure.
They know the percentage by walk.
If you apply the same percentage to your office IPS figure and add the 2 figures together it gives you a rough idea of how much mail your duty gets.
Then just count your own.
It won't be exact to the letter but should be within a couple of hundred.
If it is wildly out then so is the figure for your office.
Your rep and your Branch clearly believe it isn't.

or cant be bothered to check. we are given a full office figure for each day. model week is 42000. he put lapsing on the other day when everybody had council election letters in, but didn't announce the figures for that day (surprise surprise). it was announced next day. count was 51000. why the f**k was it put on?....because they had planned for it. no union in at all. so they chanced it and got away with it. I just cannot believe a manager would make a statement like the outgoing one did just to muckrake. its a no brainer.

I don't think our managers really want to know about the amount of mail each duty gets because they know some duties are massive whilst others are really quite sparse. If you ask all the posties to count the mail from IPS and the buddy trays it would probably lead to a gross exaggeration anyway.
The other fact is that Royal Mail don't always base their lapsing based on model traffic weeks. They lapse when staff ring in sick and generally lapse with whatever they can get away with. We know the daily traffic figures are just plucked out of thin air and are being used by managers to justify and put pressure on posties to take all the work out with them.
And when posties either leave mail/packets in the frame and/or bring it back to the office with them, are these being reported properly by the managers/DOMs?? My thoughts are that they are not as that would put the office and the DOM under the spotlight.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

In our office the summer absorption was fixed at four days a week no matter what the mail volumes were. Next week is the last week for summer absorption then unless something changes the avalanche of mail starts the following week. We will know then if the GDPR was a fear factor thing or if it actually has affected mail volumes.

How many times. If you have time for lapsing, why shouldn't you do it? If you don't have time, don't do it. Simple. If you're honest and experienced on your duty, they really can't say anything if you evaluate that YOU, on YOUR walk for a given day do not have time for extra , regardless of the traffic figure for the whole office.daveyeff wrote:or cant be bothered to check. we are given a full office figure for each day. model week is 42000. he put lapsing on the other day when everybody had council election letters in, but didn't announce the figures for that day (surprise surprise). it was announced next day. count was 51000. why the f**k was it put on?....because they had planned for it. no union in at all. so they chanced it and got away with it.
