Personally I'm all for PDA monitoring both indoor / outdoor , if you do your job steadily and don't pizz of for a smoke every hour then what's the problem ?

I cant wait until clocking in/off , pda actuals are used for everything. Everything should be optimised in such a way that we all get paid 8 hours a day or whatever and have to sort/prep the same ammount of mail then deliver it in them hours. If you take longer because youre not upto speed thats your problem and you finish it in your own time with no overtime paid. When all the deliveries are optimised and equaled using the actuals and the system says thats your work for the day in the hours youve got, no one should get paid more for underperforming

So would a 64 year old be under performing as he's slower than say a 19 year old ?citypostie wrote:I cant wait until clocking in/off , pda actuals are used for everything. Citypostie, everyone should get paid for hours worked, underperforming doesn't come in to it when anything could happen in a day to slow you down.. breakdown, accident, or lots of no answers! No 2 days are the same!

Thats fair enough if you have a breakdown or accident. My tongue was firmly in cheek when i posted that because if you remember what i put was basically what royal mail said they wanted. Its just the way people on here beg for clocking in and out and pda actuals they should be careful for what they wish for because its a step closer to what royal mail ultimately want. Think amazon workers in the warehouses for indoor work and the drivers they employ for outdoorsabuch1980 wrote:Citypostie, everyone should get paid for hours worked, underperforming doesn't come in to it when anything could happen in a day to slow you down.. breakdown, accident, or lots of no answers! They couldn’t get own the workload so instead they’ll get a tiptoe towards PDA enabled centralised control over your entire day..

Only people who've never had to suffer the rigid time-keeping of punching the clock would ever call for them.
To actually want to move from signing-in to punching the clock is just bizarre.

Job and knock isn't over. We all know that. There's plenty of people who bail out the lino by getting docket to come in early, then said lino turns a blind eye when they go home an hr early. Said lino is not so accommodating when postie on an impossible to do on time round asks for an hr and a half docket to complete. Stinks doesn't it. Get an easy part time delivery, come in early on docket, go home before your time , now that's the way forward, instead of toiling out there till gone 4pm working ALL your hrs and more. When will royal mail wake up. Couldn't manage a piss up .........

clocking in machines,, be nice if they got a machine that cancelled the stamps. The amount of letters and parcels that the stamps have not been cancelled, is unreal, royal mail might be losing a lot of money. plus parcels being redelivered for a second third and fourth time for free. When you get a 739 card and want it redelivered , there should be a charge, not free. If I missed my flight cant get it free next time. Maybe if royal mail sort out things like this, they would not need to try and overload us. Which in turn puts the sick record up, which also cost royal mail.

Why would any employer use any form of automated data capture whether it's clocking in or PDA actuals to do anything other than save money?
The "under utilised" hours data will be used to cut office budgets anything over will be put down to underperforming.
Management will be left to their own devices to achieve those budgets, it won't be pretty for anyone.
Duties won't be balanced because it's far too complicated, they'll just be increased across the board then more pressure applied to complete and whatever falls out the other end will be mopped up as usual. It's how it's always been done.
Is anyone dumb enough to expect anything else?

With PDA actuals higher up than the DOM might see all them 1hrs "saved", add them together and tell the DOM that they're getting them hours removed from their budgetrambo1 wrote:Job and knock isn't over. The amount of uncancelled stamps is probably down to the staffing levels which are cut right back so it's either stamps get cancelled and mail gets failed or the stamps don't get cancelled and the mail has a chance of clearing. If shifts fail too often, isn't there a chance of RM getting fined anyway for QoS?seaside wrote:clocking in machines,, be nice if they got a machine that cancelled the stamps. Regarding cancellation of stamps I imagine shape of items and positioning of stamps play a part in some not being cancelled. It's not that much of a bother to put a line through stamps with a pen while out on delivery. If you just do the large size stamps which are worth well over a quid you're saving quite a lot of revenue. This is presuming there is a large problem with reuse of postage stamps. Given that this accusation comes from RM and little of what they put out can be trusted I will leave that for you to decide.
Regarding clocking in most comments have mentioned PDA data but the AHDC system once it has been trialed & implemented will be the clocking in system. As well as building exits it will also be fitted outside toilets and possibly will be activated all through the sorting process. I realise all this tracking could be used in a bad way - referring to employer practices of ASOS, Amazon, Sports Direct etc here - but I don't think RM would go down that route. I know they still want to move the operation later into the day to reduce costs but they aren't going to bring in a Amazon point compliance system.
The current walk design system is in no way accurate and we all know it. As I have mentioned elsewhere using a holster to easily carry the PDA up to every letterbox or delivery point will get the maximum amount of time logged on the system. I know it isn't an easy request but if everyone comes in on time and not earlier as well as taking their break times we can get to a point where walk lengths are possible to complete .

Roll on clocking in machines
That will bugger up the people in my office that falsify the signing on sheet and claim overtime they are not doing.
I never fill in my finishing time and haven't for 3 years plus and not one manager has said anything about it.
Finishing early. If they did the job properly(ie one bundle of mail in the front of the van is the max allowed)
then they would finish at the right time.Finishing early just gives a reason for rm to take away more duties
As for the time I worked in London why was it that the people who started before they were meant to and worked for free
were always the first ones to moan about going over their finish time?
Sorry buddy. If you can work for nothing before your start time then you can work for nothing after your finishing time!
Smiffy
