Clocking in and out is long overdue.

However I can see that when clocking in and out comes in and PDA actual data shows the true length of deliveries, RM will be brought to the dreadful realisation that they have not enough staff to cover the work and yet not enough revenue to both employ the necessary staff and make enough monbey to pay dividends enough to placate the shareholders.

I don't understand this obsession with clocking in and out.
We sign in and out. What's the difference?
I don't understand peoples obsession with NOT Clocking In an Out! I'm sure we've all had previous jobs (alright I know a few in my DO that Haven't  ). How many of these didn't rely on some kind of clocking in system? I can only think that people who do not want to clock in, and out, obviously have something to hide..... like cutting corners, running around and not working properly. :hmmmm

Perhaps there's even Delivery Offices that can't justify the amount of staff they employ, and they don't want Higher Management to know about it? :whistle Being a cynic I can only conclude that if this system is in operation it must suit Royal Mail, and there may be a whiff of truth in the idea that they're not interested in facts because it might cost them more money, and make them employ more staff. :hmmmm

As for Mickymacca's comment concerning colleagues who hang around in the mornings (basically time wasting), I'm sure they don't want it to appear too obvious that their outdoor work element isn't large enough to keep them busy until the end of their contracted hours. We have a couple who regularly spend 30mins messing about, gassing with their mates etc, AFTER they've taken their mail out and loaded their vans. :thumbdown It's obviously a Management Problem/Decision but it's hard not to notice it and it causes a lot of bad feeling within the DO. :cuppa

Every office around the UK on the same page tea break etc .
Need to take away management bonus.
Bonus for all the office productivity etc.
PDAs locked away till after tea breaks .

Please explain how clocking in and out solves the problem when staff come in early, forget to clock in and then decide to clock in when everyone else arrives? Every office in the UK on the same page - like how is that ever going to happen? Do we expect the managers to call everyone up to go for a tea break. No, because its not beneficial to them and never will be. Now, I totally agree with not giving the managers any sort of bonus because in my experience they don't actually do anything to deserve one. Now they are not expected to do deliveries, what exactly are they doing when we have left the office? :hmmmm We certainly need 20% fewer managers as that would directly increase our profit margins.

Why not? You come in the door look at the time, write it down. OR you pick up a card, clock it or scan it or whatever, shows the time you came in. Same thing. I wouldn't write the wrong time down, just like I wouldn't claim 40 mins if I only did 30. I'd be sacked.

If there are people who would write down the wrong time, they'd find a way to clock in fraudulently. It would be just as easy for the last one out to clock all the cards of people who left hours ago.

I'd actually love to have some kind of scanning in and out, as it would save me getting my specs out and writing a novel three times a day (we have to write down time in, time out, first letter last letter, actual finish time, proper finish time, our pay number and sign the fecking thing. Then there's the predicting of overtime, writing down our pay number, signing it then writing down actual overtime). PITA. .

Wouldn't surprise me if in the very near future, "PDA actuals" is extended to indoor work, where you log in as soon as you enter the depot and change between different indoor/outdoor modes through the shift and you must keep the PDA with you at all times.

Find it shocking that PDA actuals are in effect but managers are still allowed to use the old overtime ‘deals’ of 2 loops for an 1.75 hours overtime. We’ve still got people coming back early and claiming overtime.

Possibly because managers/linos know full well that a vast majority of OPGs are finishing significantly early by throwing the rule book out of the window. If the "cut-off clearers" were suddenly told they would only be paid for the actual time they went above contract hours, those with a brain (many of us) would simply follow the rules better and could well end up claiming more overtime than these current deals.

Small motion activated CCTV camera facing the signing-on desk, just needs the timestamp on the recording compared with the scanning in time, problem solved

I don’t know how it is in your office but in mine we have to rush around just to finish on time. There’s no time for a break on 90% of duties here.

If I work how Royal Mail want, use a trolley, scan every 2D I see, scan every foreign packet, take my break etc, I end up bringing 2 loops back come my finish time.
What incentive does that give the DOM to increase the amount of hours in your DO?

I don't think they can use CCTV in this way SpacePhoenix

If you can't take pictures of mail being left in frames to highlight what is going on in delivery offices, what right have the company got to use CCTV on us?

In my humble opinion, it seems that either a) DOMs get some integrity, humility, earn som respect and grow some balls and stand up to their bosses. Along the lines of 'I'm no longer prepared to take the pish out of the majority of posties in my office, I'm telling them to take their breaks and work to rules, I'll ask them if they want overtime, I will not passively or aggresively bully/ undermine staff not to cut off if they want to. I will not allow early starting or finishing. I am reassessing all rounds based on facts, even if it means walking everyone of them myself on a busy day to time it properly.

Now, we all know this won't happen because the bonus culture is driven in to them, and as is clear RM just could not manage to be a profitable to shareholders company without the pish that goes on.

So the only answer is remove the bonus. Oh this will never happen because RM know damn well that it is this bonus culture that drives DOMs and LMs to behave like pretentious oversized penis' hanging from the foreheads.

So Gentlemen we are back to - Everybody must work to the rules - everyone of them!

Or continue to be treated like door mat's - because you act like one! :mad :evil/mad
