No chance in our office! Even our water cooler is broken, still waiting for it to be fixed, I find a couple of frozen bottles last most of the day and I am lucky enough to have a place near the end where I can top up.
I do like the hot weather but am a bit concerned about Wednesdays workload!

I understand that there is now a push for us to “work our hours” but there is no fairness in how this is being done, and its surely just punishing us younger/faster guys who might walk at a faster pace. Surely if all the walks have been planned and signed off as being equal, they shouldnt just decide that if we get back half an hour or so earlier than someone else we have to go back out to do more.
And the fact this is all happening in this heat, with no mention of this from any of the managers, is just really demoralising. Ive refused to go back out a couple of times because i really felt like i physically couldnt do anymore.
The walks i do all have lots of steps and hills and even when im talking about getting back early, i would still have been out there a minimum of 4.5 hours.
Well said that man. I am covering for a hct dutie where the holder is on long term sick. Every day he claimed 2-3 hours finishing up around 4 or 5. He point blank refused to lapse so the duty still doesn't have any. I finish most days 1-2 hours before my finish time and have only gone over for the first few days. Fair enough the walk is super tough and no one else in the office wants to touch it. It's really unfair that younger and fitter people get made to feel bad about finishing before the older lot. Especially when it's saving them money by not paying someone overtime for dragging there feet.

So you get paid say 6hrs for doing 4.5 hrs work. Whereas duty holder gets paid 6hrs for doing 6hrs work, is that fair.
If you're younger and quicker, u should get sent back out till you've done 6hrs, it's only fair. Maybe if u slowed down then duty wouldn't be so 'super tough'. It's not a race.
I’m a pretty tall guy and can’t really help finishing early. I take a casual pace cause if I rush then I’m exhausted the rest of the day and probably won’t leave the sofa.
If a manager sends me back out. I class that as heightism

Yes, this. I pity the duty holder when he comes back off sick, to be told 'your cover was finishing two hours before their time, no excuses for you even if you are twenty years older, so bend over, open wide and take that lapsing!'
Yeah, thanks, comrade!
Be careful, rushing round on this 'super tough' duty that no one else will touch (there are normally good reasons for this), in case the holder doesn't come back and you get stuck with it.
Might not be so easy eighteen months, two years down the line.

How do you work that out? We both start at 6am. We both have the same finish time. Every day even when light he claimed at least 2hours. I don't go over. Ever. I'm happy cos I finish a bit early. Management are happy cos they don't pay someone overtime for dragging their feet. Why the hell should I get sent back out for completing the same amount of work for less money than the duty holder?!

Was only giving example as unsure what contract/hrs you are both on. But yeah what Clash said.

Because you are paid by the hour.
It isn't piece work.
Yes I get where your coming from but my point is that there will always be people who go slow and claim, there will always be some who are fast and finish early. Obviously it's the nature of the job. Not everyone is the same pace and trying to finish exactly at your finish time is almost impossible.

its not job and finish!! work to your time and not carve up your duty. some postman do the job properly . Do you take your breaks and not cut corners and not come in early you must be going faster than the speed they worked the round out by so slow down.
Get used to it because your be working till your finish time everyday when this PDA actuals come in
Get used to it because your be working till your finish time everyday when this PDA actuals come in
After the first couple of weeks of PDA figures this has now happened in our office, managers have had their hours changed so that there is always one on site by the signing out sheets and they will not let you leave till your finish time.
You can split it up indoor/outdoor as you want but full meal relief must be taken before returning to the office, no more adding time on at the end of the day if you have not taken it, it's a case of use it or loose it.
They have had posties sat around for as little as 10 minutes before letting them go home.
