Ballot papers timetable!!!

We can now confirm the Ballot timetable for the
proposed agreement is as follows:

Ballot papers to be dispatched from Friday 9th November.
Ballot closes on Tuesday 27th November.

In setting out this timetable, the Union has had to take into account
the current backlog of mail that is still affecting some areas of the
country.

The CWU leadership want us to vote Yes to this agreement.

Royal Mail want us to vote Yes to this agreement.

It's looking increasing likely that the CWU have dragged their heels in putting this to the membership, perhaps hoping people will run scared of voting No because that could bring the prospect of strike action just 3 weeks before Christmas.

What other explanation can there be for a ballot not being concluded until Tuesday 27th November, more than a month after the PEC ratified the agreement (on Monday 22nd October) and some 46 days since RM agreed the deal with Billy and Dave on 12th October ??? I smell a stitch-up here, folks.

In my opinion, we should have had a two-week ballot, sent out on Tuesday 23rd October, concluded on 6th November, i.e. tomorrow. Had we done so, a No vote and the requisite 7 days notice to RM could have had us on rolling strikes as early as Tuesday next week, putting pressure on RM. I fear sufficient people will now vote Yes just to avoid being on strike in December (27th Nov + 7 days notice = 4th December) that this agreement will end up being accepted

As we haven't taken industrial action for over 4 weeks
will we have to be re-balloted for strike action?????

If so I am sure the union will spin out that ballot so the results arrive after christmas

None. Whether its a Yes or No vote with a majority of 1 - it carries.

CWU can now confirm the ballot timetable for the proposed agreement with Royal Mail on pay and modernisation is as follows:

Ballot papers to be dispatched from Friday 9th November.

Ballot closes on Tuesday 27th November.

In setting out this timetable, the union has had to take into account the current backlog of mail that is still affecting some areas of the country. This is a one member one vote ballot. This ballot does not cover pensions which will be dealt with in a separate consultation and ballot.

The result of the ballot will be announced as soon as possible.

why not get the office reps to carry out an in house ballot
and then get tghem to return the results to local h q s and then forward to
head opffice ?? we then know everyone has had a vote and none can go missing

Under Thatcher's trade union reforms, this would be illegal.

A proper postal ballot has to be carried out. Oh, and in case people were in any doubt, I'm voting NO. The reason I was moaning about the delay in getting the ballot papers out is precisely because I believe it's designed to lessen the likelihood of a No vote, because the short-sighted people will only think about the impact of striking before Christmas, and vote Yes to a bad deal
