POST OFFICE IS FAILING

For the past year or so all we have heard of is the need to close post offices because they are not being used by the public. The closing of post offices shows a failure by the Government to run an efficient company.

It must be likened to Lord Beeching's attitude to the railways back in the mid-1960s when some 2,000 stations and 8,000 miles of railway were closed. His attitude was: "They do not make a profit, therefore close them."

This is a decision a 10-year-old child would be capable of making. But the clever person should be able to sit down and work out a way of making them efficient and pay their way.

A few years back the Government spent what was possibly millions of pounds changing the name and the logo of the Post Office. Then, in a short time, changed it all back again. They have been responsible for forcing customers away. Customers are now unable to pay for a TV licence at the post office, their benefits are now being paid into banks, collections have been reduced to one a day, Sunday collections have been cancelled - the list is endless.

What I now find ludicrous is that each day we are bombarded with TV adverts telling us we should use the post offices. These adverts no doubt again cost millions of pounds with the celebrities who appear in them.

Post offices in many areas are the heart of villages, estates and small towns. People meet and are known by the staff - staff who will notice if Mr and Mrs Smith do not collect their pensions for some time and grow concerned about them.

The closing of a post office will immediately place more people out of work at a time when this Government is preaching to us that they intend to offer more work for the people of this country.

The fabric of this country is very much being eroded away and service has become a farce. People no longer matter or count as far as this is concerned.

We were once top in the world with transport, health, education. Now we are becoming likened to a Third World nation.

Beeching -Post Office Today

Post by norbet colon »

Beeching was a hack put in by the McMillan ?, Tory Government to do a job . The Road Lobby pays a lot of money into The Conservative Party and expects to be looked after , remember the fuel protest ? , True Blue Tories to a man in a cut throat business , if we'd pulled a stunt like that ; we'd be crucified by the Tory Papers .

He'd two problems, political naivette in dealing with Nationalised Industries but making him Chairman of BR was like having a cat minding pigeons . Bit like Saddam & Anal today ? . The 2nd Problem coming from ICI he just didn't understand how the railway worked , the root & branch concept , both literally & metaphorically . Therefore he closed down too many lines . There had been duplication with Victorian Laissez Faire Capitalisim & the way the railway ran was a hangover from Victorian Days ; the railway having to be common carrier etc .

It'd been a lot worse if "Bevanite " Wilson hadn't have got in ,but Wilson was under pressure from the T&G etc and their wagon driver members .Too many cases to list of lines that shouldn't have been closed down . Also people don't want to get on a bus if e.g. they've come up from London to go to Keswick in the Lake District and have to get off at Penrith . There's also ways & means and closure by stealth .

The Irony now with a botched Privatisation that WASN'T supposed to work, is there's the traffic of the 50's but lines closed that could be busy .

There's a endless Stream of RM propoganda on "Independent " "non-political / non-politically motivated " Hellfail about the PO , the Italian System revitalised itself without the one idea Lamebrain & Dozier Slash & Burn ideology with no vision or imagination.

Had 9 years of that Industry , it's like Deja Vue with RM.
