Hasn't got a hope in hell of happening, only reason why the night shift failures aren't massive atm is because it's always quieter at this time of year. Once RM realise what affect the later arrivals at MCs are having, there's two possibly ways that they'll probably go about it:

1) Revert the changes introduced with Network 18.

This option I can't see them going for.

2) Push all the dispatches back by at least an hour and MC and DO start times back by at least an hour

This option I can see them going for as it'll cut down on shift allowances, night shift staff won't be doing so many of the hours that qualify for night rate and for distribution/logistics, if they move all DO runs so that none, or just the bare minimum that they can get away with start before the time when night rate is not payable payable (think it's 05:00 in the morning then they save money there as well on night rate.

I've seen on here that my office will start later, i'm already looking forward to staying in my bed a bit longer :nana
SpacePhoenix has his opinion and he is sticking with it which is fair enough. I work in a DO and don't really know what Network 18 and Network 12 are. As a general rule changes within RM usually make the job worse and I can't off the top of my head think of a single change in the past 20 years that has been beneficial. I was told today that apparently Postie's are leaving RM like flies and was asked if I knew why. I don't know but I think the next biggie will likely be the delivery prep changes which will supposedly save time. Of course anyone with an ounce of common sense knows how we do it now is the best way & that the new method will take longer. RM won't want to pay more money to do the extra prep time so we will be even more out of pocket & time. To be honest I can see RM going down the tubes and wish I had sold my shares at 6.20 .
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

Network 18 is in and how many delivery offices are starting later ?

Under th National Agreement 187 Offices was initially told that they had to start later as a result of the LAT product from October. This has now reduced to 46.

Running aside Network 18 is the drive to 85% in Mail Centre’s Where they have been tasked to get 85% of work on the first wave. A number of Mail centres already do this or are within touching distance of this figure.

Remember 90% of a Mail centres inward work is in by mid night. So the aim of Network 18 and the overall strategy is to have more work in earlier rather than later.

However I do believe the direction of travel in the longer term will be later starts. If you do not throw your first wave of work into a frame and in face one trial is merging your first wave for HCTs inside the HCT along with your second wave and manual. Than clearly for the majority of staff there is no point in coming in until either the manual is thrown up or your wave 2 arrival turns up. Add to this to when eventual all the following are fully developed PDA actuals , Automated Hours Data Capture , Final mile Optimisation , Automated traffic recording all acting as a resourcing tool which than produces a duty scheduler for an office based on the traffic and could produce a summer set of duties for an office and January to April , autumn set of duties and a christmas set.

Additionally the growth in the UK Postal market remains next day and same day parcels and that puts pressures on the start and finishing times of all Postal workers including in RDCs , Mail Centre, Collections , Area Distribution , Network drivers and delivery drivers as customers want later Acceptance times to ensure next day delivery.

Royal Mail would have perfered that all the new LAT product connected with normal deliveries as when parcels and letters are delivered together they make the most money. However this would have meant that delivery staff would have had to move to nearer 0900. The CWU however made sure that 20% of the LAT product would not connect with the core and therefore the vast majority 94% would not need to move their start times apart from the hour reduction from October.

Dream on, since Network 18, all our work comes in later, the only work that we have available before midnight is the 1st class locals from the late shift. We get some Tracked early but apart from that nothing before 01:00. Once autumn pressure start, we'll probably end up failing 50+ sleeves every night and end up doing at the start of the night shift

Dream on Space 67% Of DSA is in the inward Mail Centre by 14:00 each afternoon. That is the contract with DSA suppliers.

3% of intra is in before 22:00 and than 20% of second class is in before mid-night.

These are facts not dreams yet Mail centres average on first waves are 75% with some as low as 60%. This is despite the fact that auto miss shows some sequencing machines being switch on until 01:00.

This is why the processing reliagnment of duties fits in with the drive to 85% in the first wave.

Remember space facts not dreams. Network 18 will not impact on start times .

However any new National Agreement will do. Oh and remember in Mail centres if start times in delivery offices move later so will the late shift and the night shift will be finishing around 0900 in the Mail Centre.

dingo, the work is coming in later. DSA gets processed by early and late shifts, 2C can't be done on nights, it gets done by early shift (I don't think you understand the difference between 1C and 2C). Our start times WILL be put back, as our work (night shift) comes in later, and will therefore go out later. You don't have any understanding of how things actually work on the floor, ttake them rose tinted glasses off! :cuppa

Just to confirm :

Colleague discount available from Later Acceptance Times customer Bloom & Wild
The first customer to sign up to Later Acceptance Times (LATs) for Tracked 24 is offering a discount for all Royal Mail colleagues, to say thank you for its successful start.
Around 180 units having launched dedicated afternoon parcel deliveries as part of the first phase of the rollout of LATs.
This is a key element of our agreement with CWU and allows us to respond to the demands of the market. It means we can accept items into our distribution centres later into the evening, up to 1.30am, for next-day delivery.
Flower company Bloom & Wild are our first customers. They are pleased with the start we have made and are offering a 20% discount for colleagues ordering online at bloomandwild.com. Enter the discount code ROYALMAIL2 at the checkout to take advantage. The offer runs until the end of July, and is restricted to one use, per person.
Bloom & Wild's senior operations manager Henry Mower said: 'We have seen encouraging early signs around the operation and performance.'
Kirkcaldy delivery office is one of the units now delivering later in the day.
Postman Chris Dowling said: 'It's a positive move and definitely makes us more competitive. It might be a challenge delivering to areas we haven't delivered to before but I've been looking forward to trying out the new routes.'
Look out for more in next week's RMtv and the July issue of Courier, which is due to land at homes from Friday 27 July.

Ross Taylor

Language Timothy ! Your talking from your own Mail Centre not the other 36.

Royal Mail know that they have 90% Of the sequencing workload in a Mail Centre by mid night yet only between 60 and 80% ok the first wave . Hence why they are saying to all Mail Centre managers you have to put in plan to have 85% on the first wave. This is what the processing realignment which triggers Mail Centre Shorter working week is about.

However I think it is best I don’t respond to you anymore so enjoy your weekend

changing start times (sww) means 2 hours less time for sequencing, so LESS mail will go on wave 1 :arrrghhh :cuppa

MC has changed a lot over the last 10 years and will probably change again soon, i can see any MC that doesn't have a packet sorting machine loosing all their 2C and outward Tracked 48 to MCs that do.

Anyway, seeing lots more businesses using LAT now. I even delivered an item with Argos written all over it, so word is getting out now. Second week into the trial and I think it's been a success so far. Just wait until Xmas when this product will really take off..in some regards it may sky-rocket by then.

Biggest customer that I can see using it is Amazon, if they start using it then you could potentially be looking at 100+ LAT items per DO, especially once we get towards xmas. Long term could RM end up having some people in a DO sorting all the mail in the DO, ready for it to be delivered then the rest do 3hrs delivery then come back, have their meal relief then take out the LAT items (if not all the staff needed to do the LAT items then possibly the ones not doing LAT deliveries doing collections)?
