Contract hours?

Post by Ajtms »

Hi

First post here as a new starter so hello everyone.

My contract has arrived this morning and I'm slightly concerned over the discrepancy between the position applied for and that described in my contract.

The job advertisement was for a 24hr contract based over 5 days of 6hrs with 2 set days off and a 3rd day off to be confirmed with fixed start and finish times. My contract does state 24hrs but also states hours to be arranged by manager and that measured overtime is a requirement of the contract?

I'm fairly flexible in regards to the days I work and would appreciate the occasional few hours ot but I wouldn't like to think ot will be forced and potentially make me late to finish for other obligations outside of work which was the whole point of applying for a part time position.

What's the likely scenario once I take up my position?

Contract hours?

What the job advert says......what your contract says......and what actually happens are 3 different things.
What happens after that really depends on the office you are at, we have horror stories but at times we have stories of fairly decent offices.
Seek out the rep and workplace coach they should be able to put you right on a few things.........hopefully!

And yes rule of thumb is the hrs you are on are usually not enough to get the job done, welcome to Royal Mail, good luck.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
