Well RM say that the average postie only goes to 72,%, of houses. If they want you to do it correctly then they will need to REDUCE the amount of calls per walk. I think that pdas will be a good think except for the runners. But you can get that this will be dropped when they see how much more it will cost them for yous to do the job correctly. Then another head f...k WILL be thought up by some graduate who has never even delivered a paper never mind done a walk and that is the biggest problem.

I have the HS2 warzone on my walk and so there are an increasing amount of empty and inaccessible properties on my walk. Nevertheless I would say I usually deliver to 95% of the properties on my walk each day if not more.

Also be interesting to find out who triggered the disciplinary action as if the postman was following office protocol that isn’t inline with RM policy then surely the DOM is for the high jump as well.
If it's because he was nesting or not doing every call on a certain day they would be able to get rid of the majority of postie's! As long as they are all done by the end of the week what's the problem?
Because they are not getting done? In our area it's mentioned regulary at WTL, to many returns

People moan about going to houses without mail, just do it, if it means cutting off or overtime all the better :nana
Yeah, me and my partner saw the light and talked about this last week. It's obvious what's coming or, rather, in view of events in Swansea, what's already here.
If
The days of not going down a path with a d2d because they have no letters and maybe doubling up on the next one that does etc are gone. PDA Actuals are going to see if you've been down those paths or not and, if it was a d2d day and you didn't, they're going to bust you if they want to.

In the past I may or may not have followed d2d protocol in order to get the duty done in a sensible time, especially in kDecember. But now it's going to have to be done properly and that means one of two things. More overtime for me or even more mail coming back that I haven't time to deliver.

This is all going to get very interesting. If we all start doing the job properly it's going to cause RM some headaches. People have been cutting corners, d2ds being one of them, to save time and get the job done. If RM are going to start, and it looks like they have, penalising people for this, then a truer picture of how impossible our jobs can be at times will surely emerge? There is certainly going to be a lot more mail being left or coming back that needs covering. Good luck with that now they're only paying for what you do and the days of two, three hours for a loop are coming to an end...again, due to PDA Actuals.

There's going to be a s**t storm coming, is my guess and this is the start. I think Union Reps are going to be very busy over the next few months and the lead up to Christmas.
Excellent post!
It's another one to file under the 'every DO is run differently' principle. In our DO as long as all the D2D are cleared when we pull out the mail on Saturday the management are happy and there is no problem. In other offices it sounds like DOMs are attempting to enforce the standard method issued by RM maybe because Postie's are not clearing all the D2D in the same week.
It would be possible to use the PDA data to check that say a vertical row, or if they wanted to be prissy, a percentage of a horizontal row of addresses were all visited each day. I think, or rather hope, that they don't decide to introduce this and enforce it in such a way. This is going to increase delivery times along with the new delivery methods if they are introduced. By all means chase up or coach Postie's if they are obviously not delivering D2Ds but this is starting to emulate a certain empires paperwork fascination.
I have seen little interest from the union in the amount of unpaid work completed across RM. The TUC have reported on it nationally but our union higher up leaders seem more and more intent on snuggling up to RM bosses. What they hope to gain from this activity I have no idea. RMtv often looks like an episode of Terry & June or maybe Spitting Image.
The local union should be congratulated on supporting the workforce in reinstating the sacked postie in Swansea. This may be a sign that the union will be more willing to stand up and defend us. What happened at Swansea was a blatant fault on the part of RM though and they should have known they were in the wrong.

Sorry if i've misunderstood your post but why do you see an "increase in delivery times" as a problem, surely it should be looked at as a good thing keeping people employed?

I was referencing RM enforcing rules on D2D delivery and/or changing delivery prep methods which will take longer to do than the current methods we use. I for example would not walk on peoples lawns or climb over their fences but I will look to be efficient in the way I do the job. On D2D for example if a address has a half mile long drive I will wait until they receive some other mail before I deliver their D2D items. If I have a line of letterboxes within a few steps of each other I will deliver them all on Monday or ASAP even if they have no other mail. If I have any unoccupied houses that get no mail I will deliver their D2D on Monday.
More work I agree is good and keeps job safe or maybe even results in additional jobs being made. But if RM make changes to do something in a certain fashion or make changes designed to save time that actually take longer than duty time that is a problem. Especially if it is made difficult or is nigh on impossible to book extended delivery or RM maintains a false position that work detailed in a walk log can be completed in duty time when it cannot be. Such as the many part timers in RM who are meant to have their walks prepped but there is no paid duty time left to do it. This is probably the prime example of how downsizing & cost cutting by Moya etc has made RM a **** company to work for.

It's not our problem, if RM put procedures in place to fill our hours that's fine, why cut corners to help RM cut hours?

Unfortunately it will be our problem & ours alone. Currently there is nothing wrong with the way we prep mail into our frames. It has largely been done this way probably since RM was founded. How we do the prep now is not stressful nor does it cause aggression but shuffling a pile of letters and flats on the benches trying to insert more mail then shuffling again to do redirections will be like hell on Earth. The ******** who thought this up has probably never been a postie & therefore doesn't realise how stupid an idea it is.

Afraid not Celgar - the Frames are called RM 2000 frames mainly because that's the year they were introduced. Box 48s were used before.
