Most floor level ‘fighting’, including B&H, not being paid OT etc, all relate in some way or another to the whole “workload / just work your time” issue that manifests into a thousand things.
Perhaps the topic of this very thread , PDA actuals, is what the union agreed would best tackle this core problem?
What other solution can be offered save for “just give them all less work and be nicer”?

Say it takes them about 40mins to get from wherever the last letter is delivered back to the DO, and say it takes 30mins to do whatever they have to DO in the DO when they get back (hand in 739s, PDA, van keys, etc). If they're logging off as soon as they deliver the last letter, higher up will possibly see that as 70mins that can potentially be taken out of the officeNewbie001 wrote:Lots of postie's at ours I've noticed log off as soon as they've posted last letter, some as soon as they get back to office. And almost all of the office take 20 mins at end. Wonder what the data would say about this. Interesting times ahead.

Don't you sign out? My actual finish time is there for everyone to see, regardless of logging off PDA or having break at start/middle/end.SpacePhoenix wrote:Say it takes them about 40mins to get from wherever the last letter is delivered back to the DO, and say it takes 30mins to do whatever they have to DO in the DO when they get back (hand in 739s, PDA, van keys, etc). Any manager would be an idiot to assume the end of the shift is when the PDA is logged off.

make sure the very last thing you do is log off the PDA. Also make sure you do all the little jobs you need to do for a quick exit from the DO on return because they seem to be using the arrivsl time as the final time! Take your breaks, use the correct equipment, never been more important.

If manager had still been there at three they wouldn't need to check pda!!Bahia Feliz wrote:One colleague booked 20 mins extended yesterday from 14.40 till 15.00,this morning a manager said they had got back at 2pm according to the pda!Xr4 wrote:How are they getting in trouble?Bahia Feliz wrote:Basically we have had colleagues already being challenged about what time they have returned to office etc by managers using the pda 'actual' data,be warned!!

Our previous DOMs used to do that on Saturdays and there was one cover DOM that would make reasons or excuses to go 'somewhere' when we had reason to believe they were just going home. Our current DOM is the last one to leave the office on Saturdays so there are good ones about.

Yes! How can they tell anyone off for being done a bit early when they f*ck off early all the time? They tell new trainers “come see me after your round” in regards to over time issues cause they know they’ll be gone as well, it’s disgraceful.30+YEARMAN wrote:Good point is anyone checking what time Managers go home especially on Saturdays when they p.ss off home as soon as we go out on delivery.rambo1 wrote:If manager had still been there at three they wouldn't need to check pda!!Bahia Feliz wrote:One colleague booked 20 mins extended yesterday from 14.40 till 15.00,this morning a manager said they had got back at 2pm according to the pda!Xr4 wrote:How are they getting in trouble?Bahia Feliz wrote:Basically we have had colleagues already being challenged about what time they have returned to office etc by managers using the pda 'actual' data,be warned!!

Re taking your breaks -
I always we thought we could have a minimum of a 20 min break and clock off 20 mins early or we could have all 40 mins .
Our rep told me today we should be taking 20 minutes before we leave as the PDA`s dont count the 40 minutes outdoors. That gives a false reading outdoors otherwise. Unless of course you are stationary for 40 minutes your PDA will pick that upand we can make an argument, but it will be and argument every day!!
So we now have to split the 40 mins up rather than finish 20 early ?

it comes down to common sense, if youre taking 40 mins break outside, when the manager flags your duty as 40 mins too short you inform him then or before that you take your 40 mins break out on your delivery. Same with 20/20 split breaks. If you dont want the headache of arguing your case in future maybe take your break before you go out on delivery.

They are scans of time of delivery at a point in time not a tracking in real time but they will tell of gaps in duty and finish times! But these PDA's are not infallible they do lose signal in some areas just like mobile phones do but this whole investment will cost RM big time in the long run!

It is important that you understand that the DOM gets the results for the previous day on their dashboard.
The PDA activates as soon as you leave the office boundary and shows the following
The number of routes you should have
The number of times the PDA has gone out
The planned time which it should take against the actual time the PDA’ss record
Whether there was an opportunity to lapse further or whether investment was needed .
The DOM or local rep can drill down to individual walk , the route they go , Time it takes etc.
Remember it can not be used for structure change as yet.
The accuracy is still being worked on for example if someone goes out and does their lapsing first and than comes back and than goes out on his walk or there have been some cases where indivdualcs take their PDA home and of course that shows they have been out on delivery until they return to work the next day.

Very useful all of this data. Will it be used to try and speed up the slowest postie with dda, and if so how? Give them more work?? Or will it be used to give more work to the fastest postie who's speed walking puts everyone else to shame?
The problem with adding more lapse though is that you are always going to get a few who rush round, finish before their time and put everyone else to shame when the office lapses more duties.
It surely won't be a great leveller and it certainly won't take the emotion out of any conversation. But it will lead to lazy managers who will analyse the data and put up fancy pie-charts and bar graphs that no one will take any notice of.

Agree completely. Even listening to my DOM discussing this you can clearly tell that they'll be picky as to how they respond to PDA actuals - OT claims will be scrutinised more, those with shorter deliveries will get more added etc. However, no mention of reducing workload from duties they know are too big, putting resources back into offices to match the workload. etc. The spiel we got about how beneficial PDA Actuals will be for everyone was a lie.postslippete wrote:

Surely it works both ways though ?
If you can't complete you can now call up your pda actuals and prove to the manager exactly where you were and what you were doing , now if you weren't doing anything wrong then how exactly is the manager going to do anything ?
Knowing royal mail i very much doubt the tech is secure , imagine if somebody hacked into it and moved your office boundry miles from the actual office .
