No worries, I know what you mean, I see it at our place too. We are genuinely pushed to finish on time normally, but on the rare occasion we have twenty minutes or half hour left we'll bang that lapsing out.
And no need to apologise, in hindsight I should have waited a bit before I replied and not been so sensitive.
C'mon, give us a hug....

The walk frames in our DO would barely hold two days mail. It would be a virtual impossibility to fit four days of mail in the slots. A lot of posties are loyal to their customers but not particularly to RM. This is why some DOMs will try and enforce delivering the absorption first and say to cut off on your own mail. Of course they know we won't want to do that so we end up working for free to clear everything. That is how our previous DOM ran the office and we were really glad to be rid of him. There was nearly a revolution at the next DO he was transfered to.Postie45 wrote:so much this ^^^^^^^^, people worried they might have 3-4 days worth of mail on Saturday - so what ? i guess youre finishing at your scheduled finish time that day too as a worse case scenario, hardly a big deal is it ?gunho wrote:I’ll say this only once. I like this answer a lot. It shows the work ethic of the postie's is there and how management is using their goodwill against us.Celgar wrote:The walk frames in our DO would barely hold two days mail. I've gotten to the stage where I just accept management might make my job impossible on any given day in the time allowed and at the end of the day they're the ones failing the customers and not myself. I can understand how it creates a dilemma for some whether to be loyal to the customers or not. But I don't think we should be taking it upon ourselves when it's management which causes these issues.

I don't worry about the lapsing, it either gets done or it doesn't. However, when mail and packets gets left behind till the following day then this really needs reporting to senior managers above DOM level at Royal Mail. It needs reporting not just because it affects out Quality of Service i.e. the fact that customers are paying for a service and are not getting it, but also, in the long run Royal Mail might assume that running a business with live mail being held in the office is acceptable and that will negatively affect our jobs.
Think about it. If Royal Mail are not willing to pay out the extra resources and manpower to adequately cover the duties, how and why is it then suddenly acceptable for us to deliver possibly 2 loads of mail and packets on the following day?? What if this becomes the norm? What if Royal Mail start having loads of duties prepped and not having the necessary staff to deliver them - purely as a cost cutting measure?

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Maybe wrong but think managers have to report all failures. whether in delivery or mc's.postslippete wrote:I don't worry about the lapsing, it either gets done or it doesn't. Yes. I don't know the specifics but it's all based on percentages and everything is phoned through or entered on the computer system. Too high a percentage of walks failing and there is hell to pay and higher up management start poking around to see if there are more problems. Also have postal regulator who dish out fines. But the competitors and their DSA etc can do whatever they like and steal our revenue.

Our office has been failing walks for weeks now, manager comes round with a sheet of paper and asks what you think you'll be leaving today, nobody seems too concerned about it which funnily enough does concern meCelgar wrote:peaiden01 wrote:Maybe wrong but think managers have to report all failures. whether in delivery or mc's.postslippete wrote:I don't worry about the lapsing, it either gets done or it doesn't. yep. Night shift(inward) failures are going to be a lot more common now, and a lot larger with Network 18. Some larger MCs might have the staff and room to have their early shift clear any leftoversaiden01 wrote:Maybe wrong but think managers have to report all failures. whether in delivery or mc's.postslippete wrote:I don't worry about the lapsing, it either gets done or it doesn't.
