Delivery Method Trials and its impact

Post by Celgar »

If we get to keep our walk frames precisely designed as they are now then after any delivery method changes have been decided we will carry on as we do currently. How we do it now is the most efficient way. I could possibly see some time savings with not prepping D2Ds into the frames. But the trouble with that is it would inconvenience those Postie's who do shared walks.
If they try to hoist this **** onto us by reducing the size of the walk frames and maybe then closing down & combining DOs I will be leaving and looking for a different job. I expect many will feel the same and the business will suffer as a result. The staff of RM are RM and without us it is nothing.

Having separate bundles of sequenced, manual and D2D would be ridiculous, anyone old enough to remember "back to back" would no that, you spend more time flipping bundles and walking back to the door you missed than you could ever save indoors.
Oh remember that Fish but if its come in a mech tray then bench merged surely its going to be a pain in the backside trying to create the "back" bundle compared to the old way of pulling it out of the frame already in sequence so it can be backed?
The problem we have is that the outcome of the trials has already been decided. It's just a case of making the data fit the agenda.
Exactly and the driving force for the trials is to reduce the space needed indoors to do the job so they can shut down DO's and merge more offices thus saving on rents and selling off more land in the process. That's where the majority of the saving will come from.

I've read the "methods" agreement and it just looks like some jobsworth has scoured the planet looking at how every other courier does it. Shoved them all into the mixing bowl and tried to come up with something that looks workable from a pen pushers point of view.

This has the potential to be a bigger balls up than park and loop and we have all suffered since that came in.

I do wonder if the people within each unit doing the trials have all been pre-selected because they're known runners that can kill the job or have the union and company used some commonsense and gone with those that do do the job to the letter and can show were it doesn't work?

Or if there's been a bulk posting and we have to splt the wave 1 and run half of it and then run the other half. With the wave 2 thrown in you'd have 3 bundles of sequenced

Having read through all 8 pages, I may have missed it but what about the boxes of flats? will this be sequenced? On busy days I get 12 to 14 boxes how am I supposed to merge this?
Also during high season months get on average 5 d2ds every week.

This seems like a disaster waiting to happen

Only been here not even a year and some of this agreement, I must admit, went over my head, especially SSW, all these delivery trials etc

Being a part timer, kinda feel out of the loop sometimes.

Anyway, this post put a lot into perspective for and explained a lot to me, thanks, Sugar.

No chance. The T2K machines that some of the larger MCs have might be capable of sequencing but in general there's not enough flats to justify the cost of getting a machine that can sequence flats (there's a lot of "normal" letters - what can be run through an IMP or iLSM - manual letters and packets that seem to get shoved through the T2K machines just to try and justify the cost of them

The one thing that neither the Union or Royal Mail see to have considered, at least at the moment, is if successful how will the system cope with upscaling the "winning" process from 1 out of 8 offices to 1400 out of 1400 offices. Past performance doesn't engender any confidence that it will be seamless and problem free.

Minor issues, they'll be rolling out Planners 2.0 to do it all for us at a much inflated pay rate than the last lot of super brains.

With the way Network 18 is playing out, it might not be too long before all full-time DO staff end up being 09:00-17:00

It's where RM want to be I think in the not too distant future. I think most posties joined the job because it wasn't a 9 to 5 job and they have other commitments or like to do other stuff in the afternoons/daylight hours. RM still don't realise that you are more likely to find people in and be able to successfully deliver items if you get out earlier in the day. They have never done the job and their number one objective is downsizing and cost-cutting. Everything else can go in the dustbin as far as they are concerned. It's a race to the bottom.
PS. How many Postie's would actually want to regularly work 9 to 5 on most Saturdays?? Saturdays are not a big deal for me personally but even I wouldn't want to do that on a regular basis. "Have a nice weekend!" Anyone!

Not rubbish, the work gets into MCs later now and will leave later at some point, final dispatches (the 06:00) ones will likely soon be moved back to at least 06:30, probably even 07:00, they'll then hit the traffic and get to DOs even later. I'm afraid all full-time DO staff are going to have to get used to the idea of a 9-5 job as it;s very likely going to happen at some point, unless RM revoke all the Network 18 changes.

Curious as to how that would affect part timers? Full timers nine to five? So, start at nine, three hours prep, out at twelve and five hours delivery? So, part time hours would move to twelve til five?

Wow, that's worrying and a very different work life to what we have now.
