Soon to be postwoman - my application process

Post by Ambull »

Hey all,

Firstly I'd like to thank this forum and its members/admin for all the information that is supplied here. A quick search has answered all the questions I had so my need to post has been zilch. Until now.

I received an email yesterday with my formal offer and a start date - I didn't want to post until I knew I had it in the bag and now I do!

I thought I'd detail my application process as others have been helpful to me. I am (was) self-employed so the length of time it took didn't bother me but I can imagine how frustrating it is to those who have to give notice.

Anyway, here it is:

24th May - applied for the role via the website and completed the two online tests
4th June - received an email offering me to attend an interview
6th June - attended the interview (it said interviews were to be conducted on the 6th of June on the job advert but I'd given up hope by the 4th, it seemed a bit rushed!)
15th June - received a congratulatory email with a conditional offer
22nd June - driving licence information requested
26th June - digital photo requested for ID and email stating that they had submitted my details for the pre-employment checks
28th June - formal offer with induction and start dates
3rd July - email containing offer letter
6th July - received my contract in the post

From what I've read this is quick so please take it with a pinch of salt. I know I'm lucky but it might be down to my lack of notice period and being in the same job for 17 years, not much to check!

If you have any questions. feel free to ask :thumbup

Just a really quick question

I have just confirmed my interview.
I only knew about this as I’d been checking the online portal daily (no email)

I have received an email confirming my interview, but it says

‘For further details about your Delivery Interview, please take time to read our previous email’ which I have never received.

Can you give me an idea of what the interview details are?

Based on when I joined, the interview will probably ask "scenario" type questions - give an example of a time..........when you had to change your plans at the last minute....how you dealt with an awkward customer/complaint......how you have worked in a team etc etc

Make sure you take your driving licence, NU number, passport/ID with you (and any other documents you think may be needed. I was taken into the yard and asked to read a number plate from a distance, so have your glasses if you wear them. Name 5 things on a vehicle you can check without tools - wipers, washer level, oil etc etc

Hey AltoninHampshire, copied from the email I received:

Your interview and document checking session will last approximately 60 minutes.

In advance of your interview please ensure you read/complete the below documents and information.

1) Information Check List - this details the documents you are required to produce at your interview.

Note - The assessors will be unable to photocopy your documents on the day. It is important that you take photocopies of your documents to your interview and also have the original documentation for legislation requirements.
If you are providing your driving licence for either proof of address or for a driving role you MUST provide the card and it must show your current UK address.

2) Health & Physical Requirements Matrix - Please ensure you read though the matrix, selecting the appropriate role you are applying for as this provides details of health related elements you may need to consider.
IF ANY OF THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS ARE NOT PRODUCED AT INTERVIEW, YOU WILL BE TURNED AWAY. PLEASE NOTE YOUR DRIVING LICENCE MUST REFLECT YOUR CURRENT UK ADDRESS.

Regarding the ID it's as fb1969 says, take all the ID documents and photocopies you may need. I took my passport, driving licence (photocopy both sides) and NI card. The health and physical requirements matrix just details what is relevant to your applied role.

Hope that helps!
