The only competent DOMs within RM are the ones who have already been Postie's. All the DOMs who have arrived 'off the shelf' or from outside the business are generally jobs worth rule followers who don't care about those they manage.

Can't say i totally agree with your opinion, i find that the DOMs who have previously been on delivery quickly forget how hard the job can be and just produce a bit of paper to tell you the figures say it can be done

Most move into management as they see it easier than walking the streets day after day.

Have to agree and those DOM's who have come off deliveries tend to be even more nastier towards delivery staff than those coming in from outside. Its as if they have a point to prove. Personally I think they were the ones with easy deliveries, ran around like headless chickens and broke every rule in the book so think everyone else is the same. Best thing that could happen would be to have them all sent back down to deliveries for a month or two to relearn the job but there's more chance of winning the lottery than that happening.

Only way that will likely happen is with barcodes on every parcel, RM would then probably expect you to scan each barcode when delivering the parcels

Unless I've missed it having been posted already, here is another issue with this trial...

Given how the the majority of the mail will be in an increased first wave and not thrown into a duty frame, in theory, just how exactly are we supposed to estimate how much overtime we may need to complete all the delivery and tell the lino before we set off on delivery (or how much to leave, following the over-running procedure)? Is this where their big saving plan is, we leave without thinking we need overtime but the unknown higher call rate takes us over our time? :hmmmm

Do we have to start booking a provisional 15+ minutes extended delivery, just in case?

For the vast majority of duties in my experience, the outdoor time is going to substantially increased by taking a known block of D2D as the separate bundle (1/6th if spread equally over all six days, 1/5th if you want "Saturday legs").

Granted, a lot of the time overtime is mostly related to "attendance parcel" levels that are too big to post through the letterbox or need a signature. But today was a classic case for me, where I needed more overtime today than Saturday, simply because I had multiple bulk mailing items that came in the sequenced mail where they substantially increased the call rate because they were the only item(s) of mail for an address.

In my very humble opinion I think the savings relating to not prepping the sequenced will be negligible using the indoor bench merging option, you don't prep sequenced to sort it you prep it to make all subsequent tasks more efficient, not prepping it causes inefficiencies further on the process.

D2D is a different matter, there are potentially big savings there but you have to wonder at a union that made such a huge song and dance about how important it was to get D2D into indoor workload now sitting back meekly allowing it to be taken out again.

Again I'll ask the question, what's in it for us?

I wonder if what youve said there will be the outcome if the trials? Prep all the mail but do d2d from the back instead of prepping? Saving that time indoors? Maybe thats the pre determined outcome before the trials even start

Dream on. With the Network 18 and later starts, you're going to get less mail in the first wave

The only option with any tiny amount of merit is bench merging.
Having separate bundles of sequenced, manual and D2D would be ridiculous, anyone old enough to remember "back to back" would no that, you spend more time flipping bundles and walking back to the door you missed than you could ever save indoors.

The problem we have is that the outcome of the trials has already been decided. It's just a case of making the data fit the agenda.

So do we get a refund of our subs if the CWU try to sell us this garbage on behalf of RM.? How many years worth! Back to the Way Forward or earlier?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
